âAnother cinematic universe is being forged as The Lord of the Rings hopes to become a massive franchise capable of mimicking the success of the Star Wars universe. Focusing on the many stories of J R. R. Tolkien's Middle Earth, The Lord of the Rings has already had multiple spin-offs, including The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. While Frodo and Sam may be done telling their stories, it appears the world still has the space to grow.â -

"Meta Platforms Inc. is the latest social networking company to ask users to pay for account verification, joining attempts from competitors including Twitter Inc. to diversify away from ad revenue.
The new Meta Verified service for Facebook and Instagram will allow users to join celebrities and other public figures in having a blue check that confirms their identity, starting from $11.99 per month, the company said in a statement.
Meta will offer the subscriptions this week for users in Australia and New Zealand, and will include a verification process that requires a government-issued ID. In addition to a verification badge, the subscription includes âproactive account protection, access to account support, and increased visibility and reach,â a Meta spokesperson said in an email." - Bloomberg Business]
When Starbucks reopened its Seattle headquarters last week, its returning workforce found that the coffee chainâs disposable paper and plastic cups had been replaced by reusable options.
Itâs a change that the company is trying to bring to the rest of its cafes worldwide, which run through roughly 7 billion disposable cups every year.
Ahead of its annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday, Starbucks unveiled the latest steps itâs taking to reduce its disposable cup use. Those include more than 20 different iterations of tests across eight markets to figure out the best ways to ditch the single-use cup.
By the end of next year, Starbucks customers will be able to use their own personal reusable cups for every Starbucks order in the United States and Canada. That includes drive-thru and mobile orders, which are currently excluded.
âWeâre doing so many tests to understand how that is most convenient for our customers and wonât slow the drive-thru line down for the person behind you and is also operationally friendly for our partners,â Amelia Landers, Starbucksâ vice president of product innovation, said in an interview.â -
"One of the most recognisable PC peripheral makers around, , is launching a new line of products aimed at streamers. They're all a bit like the recently released productivity kit that focuses on understated design and quiet keys, as opposed to the usual RGB explosion Razer is known for. Most of these entries don't seem to be all that flashy, and are more about function.
The final product in the line up, the Razer Key Light Chroma is actually pretty flashy. It seems like a highly customisable studio style light for streamers. These are the lights that tend to sit in front of some streamers, pouring nicely diffused light over their set up and faces. Lighting is a particularly difficult thing to get right for streamers. " -
"The war has both a huge human impact and is resulting in serious disruptions to supply chain and trading conditions, which is why the company groups have decided to temporarily pause IKEA operations in Russia," Brand owner Inter IKEA and store owner Ingka Group said in a joint statement on Thursday.
Inter IKEA is in charge of supply, and Ingka Group owns most IKEA stores worldwide, including all 17 in Russia.
In the year through last August, Russia was IKEA's 10th-biggest market with retail sales of 1.6 billion euros ($1.8 billion) or 4% total retail sales.
Belarus is purely a sourcing market for IKEA, it has no stores in the country." -

Denzel is gearing up for The Equalizer 3
âIt's been nearly four years since Denzel Washington was in cinemas as former Marine and special operative turned moralistic mercenary Robert McCall for The Equalizer 2, and we've heard little about a potential third film. Now, though, Washington tells Collider that the pieces are falling into place for it, with director Antoine Fuqua in the process of making a deal to return and the script in the works.
"They have written the third Equalizer, so Iâm scheduled to do that, Washington says. "So I gotta get in shape and start beating people up again. I get to beat people up again. The Tragedy Of Macbeth and then going and beating some people up. Canât get any better, right?" - Empire Online

âM&M's is getting a rebrand, and the colorful characters you spot on its candy packages and in its commercials will have a slightly new look going forward. Mars, Incorporated made the announcement yesterday, citing the company's "global commitment to create a world where everyone feels they belong."
A commercial debuting the new M&M's mascots was released on YouTube and features messaging about belonging and welcoming everyone before showing off the mascots' new looks. The difference between the existing characters and the new ones are subtle. Each M&M's shape is a bit more refined and instead of a tan color on their arms and legs, there now are faded tints to match the color of their candy shell. Most notably, perhaps, is the height of the brown M&M's heels being lowered and the green M&M's tall go-go boots being swapped for sneakers.â -

unveils Silverado electric pick up to rival F-150 Lightning.
Itâs safe to say, electric vehicles are here to stay đ»
âIf General Motors is âon a path to an all-electric future,â as CEO Mary Barra often says, the new Chevrolet Silverado EV will do some heavy lifting along the way.
Barra helped pull the covers off the all-electric pickup during her virtual keynote address at the CES tech show in Las Vegas on Wednesday, boasting it will match the power and performance of a conventional pickup â while also delivering 400 miles range. Set to go into production early next year, it will be GMâs second battery-powered pickup and one of at least 30 all-electric models set to reach market by 2025.
âThe fastest-growing segment we see for EV consideration is the full-size truck segment,â Steve Majoros, Chevyâs marketing chief, told NBC News.
Ford has logged nearly 200,000 advance reservations for its F-150 Lightning electric pickup, while Tesla says it has over 400,000 deposits for its repeatedly delayed Cybertruck. All told, there could be 10 or more battery-electric pickups on sale by mid-decade, including versions of the Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra, as well as the new Rivian R1T and others.â -

In today's intergalactic news, "Kylo Renâs band of wicked lackies looks to be getting their very own movieâor maybe TV show on Disney Plus.
Itâs hard to say. A new leaked trailerâgrainy and obviously filmed on someoneâs monitorâindicates that whatever it is will be called Knights Of Ren: A Star Wars Story. The presence of a Disney Plus logo suggests this could be a new Star Wars show, but it could also be an original movie on the service.
Whatever it is, it looks really terrific, even with the shaky footage. The animation and effects look legit, and Iâd be very surprised if this were a fake. If it is, itâs an awfully elaborate fake." -

âShopify President Harley Finkelstein told CNBC that Cyber Monday sales have been strong across its worldwide network of small businesses and direct-to-consumer companies.
âWeâve seen peak sales ... today as high as $1.5 million dollars a minute or 13,000 orders a minute,â Finkelstein added.
Finkelsteinâs comments offer insight into consumer spending during one of the holiday shopping seasonâs biggest days, which is characterized by internet retailers offering deals and discounts on a range of products.
A days earlier on Black Friday, Finkelstein said Shopify merchants booked $2.9 billion in sales, up 22% from last year at a time when many shoppers were reluctant to shop in person due to coronavirus concerns. âYouTube is making its dislike count private to deter harassment. The button will stay, but the count wonât be visible to viewers.
The decision comes after a July 2021 experiment wherein the Google-owned platform gave viewers access to the dislike button, but hid the count from them. The data showed a reduction in âdislike attacking behavior,â YouTube said in a Nov. 10 blogpost. âWe also heard directly from smaller creators and those just getting started that they are unfairly targeted by this behaviorâand our experiment confirmed that this does occur at a higher proportion on smaller channels.â
So far, creators have been able to turn off both likes and dislikesâbut that meant they couldnât benefit from positive engagement either.
The latest change has started gradually rolling out globally.â -
We WILL get Star Wars: Rouge Squadron, eventually. It may just be in a time and galaxy far far away. âš
"The start of production on upcoming Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron has been delayed. While Lucasfilm is currently focusing on an ever-growing slate of Star Wars TV shows for Disney+, the studio still has plans for the galaxy far, far away on the big screen. Following a theatrical hiatus after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the franchise's next movie will be Rogue Squadron from director Patty Jenkins. The project was officially announced during Disney's Investor Day in December 2020.
Rogue Squadron has been scheduled for a December 2023 release, with Jenkins supposedly set to work on it prior to making Wonder Woman 3. Earlier this year, it was revealed the Rogue Squadron script is nearly complete, suggesting casting and filming updates would soon follow. However, there's been a hurdle in development and Rogue Squadron is getting pushed back." -
