iiii records and Small Scale Musicare pleased to present 'Passing the Buck' by Brick Quartet with YYves Charuest

In September 2015 the Canadian/New Zealand band Brick Quartet embarked on a mammoth tour of Canada - traversing the country performing concerts of improvised music as a quartet and in collaboration with a myriad of kindred spirits.
After performing in Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener, London (Ontario), Windsor, Guelph, Sudbury, Thunder Bay (x2), Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon & Petersborough, the group gave a final performance in Montreal at La Passe where they were joined by the legendary saxophonist Yves Charuest.

The complete concert presented here is intense and angular - fluid and spontaneous structures coupled with cunning and strategic sharing of energies, dynamics, noise and splintered rhythms.

Digital album comes with a pdf featuring an essay by Raphaël Foisy.

«“Improvisations” was recorded on October 17, 2021 at Daniel James’ home studio in Montréal, Québec. This record is a document of the early months of Pablo Jimenez and James’ musical relationship. Pablo immediately involved himself in Montréal’s creative music scene upon moving to Montréal from Colombia months before this record was made. After Nicolas Caloia (Ratchet Orchestra, In The Sea, Mercury) connected the two musicians, they developed a sound characterized by energetic, texturally rich, and sometimes hilarious free improvisations. Each piece on this record was selected from a collection of improvisations Pablo and Daniel recorded during their fifth session together.»

Today, Small Scale Music is celebrating the release of a small zine humbly dedicated to a Géraldine Eguiluz (Géraldine Eguiluz Musicae) tape recorded almost 30 years ago.
It's only about 20 minutes of music, but I think it's one of the most mesmerizing and engaging suites of pieces I've ever heard. These are multi-voice improvisations on the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca. A document saved from oblivion that (I sincerely hope) will move you as much as it moved me!

The Zine also includes many paintings from the same period as well as archival documents and a small presentation text.

Thanks to Marion Henry, Bryan Qu, Damaris Baker, Ira Beltran, Martin Agudelo, Fili Apothicaire and Zacbeeh Maupomé for their participation in the project

Aujourd'hui, Small Scale Music célèbre la parution d'un petit Zine humblement consacré à une cassette de Géraldine Eguiluz enregistrée il y de cela presque 30 ans.
Il ne s'agit que d'une vingtaine de minutes de musique mais je crois que c'est une des suites de pièces les plus hypnotisantes et engageantes qu'il m'ait été donné d'entendre. Il s'agit d'improvisations à plusieurs voix sur la poésie de Federico Garcia Lorca. Un document sauvé de l'oubli qui (je l'espère sincèrement) saura vous émouvoir autant que moi!

Le Zine comprend aussi de nombreuses peintures issues de la même époque ainsi que des documents d'archives et un petit texte de présentation.
