🇺🇸 MB022: The RPMs – Temporary Satisfaction LP

Formed in 1979, the RPMs were a Milwaukee power pop band that released only one official single. Self-produced in 1980 on their own label, Hit-Man, “I Don’t Wanna Be Young b/w Loved By You” (reissued in 2009 by New York’s finest reissue label, Sing Sing Records, and now long gone and out of print), was truly a masterpiece of power pop 2-siders and is still considered a true gem of the genre today. After parting ways with their first drummer, the band entered the studio in 1983 with a new line up to record the Temporary Satisfaction LP. Unfortunately, the band didn’t even have an opportunity to shop the record in order to score the major label deal any bands from that era would have dreamed of. Denis Laing, primary songwriter and band leader, got a job opportunity he couldn’t refuse in Florida and was pressed to move there. The band instantly broke up and the full-length recording remained unreleased till now. Sure, songs from this session appeared here and there on various blogs and were unleashed on Denis’ Bandcamp page after his death in 2017, but to this day, they have never appeared on vinyl anywhere. So, this is with exciting joy that MeanBean comes in to offer their never released 1983 album paired with their magnificent debut single! All has been resequenced, repackaged with new artwork based on archival materials, a jacket insert with liners, lyrics and pictures. Now it will be your turn to enjoy Temporary Satisfaction in the format it deserved to be, so that the satisfaction becomes a permanent one! Limited to 400 copies.

MB020: The Yardleys - Starclub 7’’4 songs E.P. (1979-81)

Ok, we know you’ve heard the word “Hit!” more than once from us in the past and maybe you think it’s getting old. But fact is we have once again unearthed some incredible gems that will instantly become your new (old) favorite single! From Long Island, New York, The Yardleys managed to put out three singles in their rather short but highly inspiring career that took them touring all over Europe under the management of Clive V. Epstein – the surviving brother of Brian Epstein, the man who managed The Beatles during their meteoric rise to fame. Gracing the same legendary club stage at the Liverpool Cavern as The Beatles did, The Yardleys were actually the very last band to perform at the club before it shut down. The group also performed at the second iteration of the infamous “Star Club” in Hamburg, Germany. As everyone knows, the original Star Club launched The Beatles European career so what better venue to inspire the band to write their song “Starclub”? Avid Power Pop listeners will immediately sink their teeth into the song’s catchy sing along chorus, killer guitar riffs and melodies that reminds the best of other UK and European Power Pop bands of that era like The Kidda Band and The Rousers, for example. Originally, “Starclub” was released in 1979 with “2184” on the flip but we’ve opted to revise history and make this brilliant toe-tapping, bonafide hit paired with three unreleased songs from the “Lost England Tapes” sessions that were recorded while the band was on tour in England. Now, with this bucket of songs, the never-ending debate that constantly opposes UK and US Power Pop fans against each other is over! The Yardley’s “I Need You Tonight” and “Bad Bad Boy” are both solid US Power Pop rockers that ooze legit British suburban sounds and are sure to please die-hard UK and US Power Pop troops on both sides of The Pond while ‘’ Girls Have Fast Hands Too’’ is a fast rollicking power pop rock’n’roller! Come along and let us take you down to the Star Club where it all began! Limited to 300 copies housed in a generic Meanbean company sleeve with an added band promo shoot postcard.

Long time no see folks…

Here’s a bit of update about what’s going on in here…

All I can say is that it’s been a bit of a frustrating year with a lot of back and forth with some project we had planned so here’s a quick update:

MB020:Yardleys: I have all copies in hands since quite a while but thought I was going to be able to have Brian Jaye in hands to offer bundle but that won’t happen so I’ll make these available somewhere in January.

MB022: RPMs LP: there has been a lots of back and forth for this one, and art had to be changed last minute when I was about to drop this thing to the pressing plant which caused
delays.. So it’s not even in production yet, but should be soon.

MB023: Brian Jaye: This one have been submitted to production a year ago and without going much into details, I’m just going to say it’s been switched to another pressing plant for production which caused significant delays and i'm still waiting to hear from them … I have the sleeve in hands since quite a while but that’s it!

So hopefully things will get going sooner than later but not much will be happening until at least early 2023 …

Meanbean is not dead yet … but not that strong either …

👉🏼 This sums up 2021 for us …

Unfortunately we weren’t able to released all what we had planned for this year but I guess this is how things are these days …

I wanna say a huge thanks to anyone that help along the way with these release, especially both compilations which have been a lots of work to put all together in one piece. Thanks to everyone that bought copies, I hope you had a kick with these one…

2022 is coming and we have a few things well underway:

▶️ Both Yardleys and Brian Jaye singles are at the pressing plant…

▶️RPMs should be sent to production soon - unfortunately on a very sad note, 2 members passed out this years while we were working on this so I hope I can release this one before everyone is gone.

▶️ The third volume of Standing In the Shadows line up is all canned and so is the liners and most of the art graphic stuff but i’m waiting for the studio to proceed with transfer of audio sources I’ve sent back in august in order to be able to finalize the final sequencing and proceed with pre-mastering etc. This one should be a very late 2022 release …

🙏🏽 Again, thanks for all the support, stay safe and have a wonderful holidays ….
