Press On: Indie Publishing Festival will have a day full of programs to take part in! Both drop-in activities throughout the day—write, draw, type, admire—and timed poetry readings and workshops in the small gallery. All happening concurrently with the writer, artist, and press exhibiting vendors. Take part and take away small press treasures.

Program Schedule: Timed Activities

12pm: DIY print-making, organized by Resilient Community Arts
1pm: We Speak to Each Other, an intergenerational climate poetry reading, organized by Carolyn Cushing
2pm: Facilitated poetry workshop, led by María Luisa Arroyo Cruzado *limited to 25, first come
3pm: Imagining Gender Justice zine & comic-making workshop, organized by Translate Gender, youth focus
4pm: The But Also poetry reading, organized by Threshold Academy

Translate Gender is a trans-led, consensus-run community 501c3 non-profit that works to support trans and gender-expansive youth and their families through a variety of programming. Translate Gender staff will lead a zine and comic-making workshop for youth, teaching the importance of zines in q***r and trans history, and hold space for participating young people to make their own. Youth who participate in this workshop will be asked to dream about what a future of gender justice looks like, and to put it to paper in their zines and comics. Malaika Ross is a Caribbean American visual artist in Western Massachusetts. She is currently working on two collections of paintings which incorporate botanical and soil elements as part of a novel landscape which center black female figures. All her paintings incorporate shapes and patterns developed in her soil microbial drawings into contemporary ecologically based botanical paintings which include native and introduced flora. She considers the act of observing and documenting nature through painting and drawing as a black woman as a form of liberation, environmental stewardship and anti-oppression work.
