“Conversion therapy” has been a major issue for LGBTQ youth for decades, or perhaps even longer. It is often used in Christian communities to encourage q***r youth to use religion to combat their homosexual desires.

Anthony Venn Brown underwent such therapy in Australia and later publicly denounced such programs. He advocated for the abolition of such programs by describing the damage that they do to LGBTQ youth who are forced to undergo them, as well as the damage that lack of acceptance can have on the entire community.

month may have wrapped up yesterday but this is a reminder...

You are NOT alone.

No matter how "out" you are.
No matter what kind of relationship structure you have.
No matter your ability to donate, demonstrate, or protest.

You are worthy.
You are loved.
You are valued.

Just the way you are.

Organized religion has been one of the harshest critics of homosexuality, citing holy writings as evidence that it goes against God.

Alexya Salvador, set to become the first transgender pastor in Brazil, doesn’t necessarily see religion as the enemy of LGBTQ rights. As she states in this quotation, it is a particular version of God, one that is vengeful and judgmental, that must be eradicated. She strives for a different view of God: one that is accepting and loving of everyone, regardless of their identities.

She hopes to usher in a new era of love and understanding between religion and the LGBTQ community.

Alice Nkom made history when she became the first female Cameroonian lawyer.

In her time practicing law, she has dedicated her career to helping those who have been the victims of her country’s harsh laws against homosexuality. The fight has been an uphill battle, as these types of laws are not uncommon in African countries.

However, Nkom continues to fight, as she knows that her fight is just and right. With her work, she hopes to usher in a new era for the rights of the LGBTQ population in Cameroon.

Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, a former Icelandic Prime Minister and the first openly gay head of state, uttered these words during a speech at a 2014 Pride festival.

In this speech, she was thankful that her native country was making strides towards acceptance and equal rights for LGBTQ people. However, she emphasized that until these rights are status quo all over the world, we cannot consider ourselves truly free.

This marked one of the first calls from a head of state to make LGBTQ rights the standard worldwide.

Zanele Muholi is a South African activist and artist. She works primarily in photography and video. Despite her fame as an artist, Muholi identifies herself as an activist first. It is her intention to use her art to highlight the beauty and individuality of black LGBTQ women: a group that she believes has been terribly underrepresented in all forms of art.

So, instead of waiting for someone else to validate LGBT women of color, she took it upon herself to bring the struggles, needs, and beauty of these women to light.

Schedules and keeping track of your calendar tends to be something that you either love... or hate.

I'm on team Love My Schedule - but as a small business owner who happens to be a soloprenuer I am also among the first to tell you it can be amazingly HARD to even figure out what a "good" or "healthy" schedule should look like.

If that's you - fear not. You are in good company. Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing some of my Go-To Scheduling tips right here - and yes it's also a great practice and time for me to review my own habits!

Consider that tip #1 - Take the time to take stock of what your current schedule habits actually are.

Do your best to keep the mindset in investigatory neutral mode and avoid judging yourself for how you currently spend your time.

I think this is one of the TOUGHEST lessons to learn.

Discovering and crafting boundaries themselves may well be the single greatest lesson life has to teach us.

We teach everyone we come in contact with how best to not only interact with us, but respect us by showing them how we will be treated.

We are the only ones in charge of setting this particular expectation.

Remember the power you hold.
Remember how worthy you are.
Remember that honoring your own boundaries is the clearest message to others to honor them too.

It will have its ups and downs. Its triumphs and failures. Its moments of pure joy and of pure loathing.

But one thing is certain.

It's yours.

Be in love with your life.

In the mid-1970s, the concept of patients using blood glucose data at home was contemplated, and by 1980, the Dextrometer was launched and diabetics were given ways to monitor their glucose at home *without* having to constantly test their urine.

I was diagnosed in 1997 and by then not only were home glucose monitoring kits considered pretty common for Type 1 Diabetics but there were even multiple options! Mind you was still asking a 13 year old to pierce their fingertips anywhere from 10-20 times a day... every day... and those were on "good days".

The first CGM was approved by the FDA in 1999. I tell you what - especially as a teenager and young adult I found the early versions to be absolutely AWFUL and a very poor fit for anyone trying to lead an active lifestyle. I participated in several trials and every time walked away sticking to my 10-20 finger sticks a day.

In 2019 my partner laid out a very heartfelt plea that I consider a CGM again. You see in the course of about 8 years I had experienced 5+ seizures caused my extreme hypoglycemia. Usually they were happening in my sleep. I did more research as it had been a good 5+ years since the last time I had really looked at any of the CGMs on the market and ultimately I made the transition.

I still have a love/hate relationship with the device and I'm not sure that's ever going to actually go away. But I am thankful for the information it provides me and the fact that instead of 10-20 pricks per day... it's more like 10 in a month and mostly for calibration reasons or the rare times that my CGM is having an electronic hissy fit (IYKYK).

Every diabetic will make different decisions based on: what their resources are, what their lifestyle is like, what their access to continual care is, what their insurance will or will not cover, and if they even have insurance in the first place.

No complicated words

It's been a heck of time lately y'all. Heck of a time.

If you, like me, have been in some feels, getting through some times, or feeling like you're sitting on an edge...

Take what you need babes.

Make it a focus. A mantra. An affirmation. If that sounds intimidating to come up with try this:

I am deserving of _________ today.
I am worthy of ________ today.

& repeat.

I want to start this one out by reinforcing that we can't actually *ONLY* focus on the good in this life.

BUTT - at the same time - we also can't focus only on the not so good, horrible, bad, traumatic, and downright miserable parts of life either.

By making time every day to focus on the good in your life (& I promise it's there somewhere) we retrain ourselves to put those good things closer to the forefront of our minds.

The good could be that cup of tea or coffee.
The good could be a sweet moment with a loved one.
The good could be getting the laundry done.
The good could be using those vegetables in your fridge before they go wonky in any given week.
The good could be a message sent from a friend.

What's good in your world right now?

There is NO "correct answer".

Each and every one of us has factors, boundaries, and requirements. Not everyone wants or needs to run a business, develop a program, or sell their wares for income.

When I look back over the jobs and careers I've had since I started working at about 15 - some of those jobs were explorations, some were absolute necessity, some were "dream jobs" until they weren't, some were access to healthcare, but all were jobs that taught me about myself.

In 2020 a whole lot shifted for the world as a whole. The end of the year saw me freshly certified after 350 hours of yoga trainings. But you'll notice teaching is not a product I offer.

I had to find the path that is the best fit in my life - for the resources I have access to, for the limitations I have to work within (physical, mental, and financial), and factoring how to acknowledge my privileges while making space for others. I stepped into online work full force. Would you?

I am a BIG fan of Madonna's music.
I am also a BIG fan of some of Madonna's takes on life.
This my friends is absolutely one of her takes on life that I will always and forever stand behind.

🎨 We are all works in progress.
🏞️ We are all our masterpieces.

These two sentences seem like they should be cancelling each other out - and this is where I also remind you that two things can be true simultaneously.

🎨 You are a work in progress.
🏞️ You are also a masterpiece right now, in this moment.

What do you think of this particular take?

Bonus points:
🎵 What's your favorite Madonna track??? 🎵
(Mine is in the comments)
