MEMBER OF “THE SCENE” PASSES AWAY

The college announced today that Forest Park student Mason Dare had died suddenly on Jan. 19 at the age of 23. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Dare, who had been a STLCC student since 2021, was described as “an integral member of the staff for the Forest Park student newspaper, ‘The Scene.’ In the fall of 2024, he became the business manager, running the office and managing the website. He also contributed as a reporter and photographer when needed.”

Teri Maddox, faculty adviser to the paper, said on her page, “We will miss him so much. He was an enthusiastic and dependable employee and just an all-around good guy. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family.”

Per STLCC, counselors are available to assist students and provide support and can be reach via text or call (314) 539-5151 or [email protected].

EXCLUSIVE: Over two years after her abrupt removal from STLCC, former Meramec Political Science Professor Emily Neal has filed a lawsuit against Meramec Dean Patrick Mallory, Meramec Campus President Feleecia Moore-Davis, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Andrew Langrehr and the college as a whole for employment discrimination and unlawful retaliation.

In court documents exclusively found on PACER and filed on Oct. 21, Dr. Neal alleges that the actions, omissions and decisions by these individuals and the institution were designed to cause and will continue to cause her to lose wages, compensation, entitlement and rights. She also alleges that their actions have caused her to suffer humiliation and harm to her reputation, emotional and mental injuries, pain and suffering and other adverse consequences.

“The 2024 edition of Meramec’s literary magazine “Currents” was delivered to campus over the summer, and it’s slightly different than it has been in recent years. For starters, it’s got a simple, retro cover theme and it’s doubled in size. At 228 pages, it’s twice as long as the 2023 volume, but contains similar content. This edition features pieces that are often dark in tone, as the last few editions also have.”

DONALD TRUMP WINS SECOND PRESIDENTIAL TERM

According to the Associated Press, FOX News and MSNBC, Republican Candidate Donald Trump has won the 2024 Presidential Race. He secured victories in enough key battleground states, including the important battleground states of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin early in the morning hours on Wednesday, to get the minimum of 270 votes needed to win. Two swing states are still counting votes, but there are no combinations left that would get Vice President Kamala Harris to 270 votes.

This victory makes Trump the second President in history to serve two non-consecutive terms. The only other President to do so was Grover Cleveland, who served from 1885-1889 and 1893-1897.

Trump won re-election despite controversial rhetoric again being a centerpiece of his campaign, and despite early polls showing he was losing ground in swing states. A convicted felon, Trump is still scheduled to face sentencing in New York City in a “hush money” case later this month. Other charges and investigations against him that he faces on the federal level are now uncertain.

For the first time in his electoral history, he also appears to have won both the electoral college and the popular vote.

Trump will take office once more on Jan. 20, 2025, with Ohio Senator JD Vance being sworn in as the Vice President.

BUS SERVICE TO MERAMEC EXPERIENCING DELAYS DUE TO FLASH FLOODING

The ongoing rain in the St. Louis continues this Election Day, with flash flooding and road closures prevalent throughout the St. Louis area.

Both bus routes serving Meramec ( #21: Watson and
#56: Kirkwood-Webster) were fully suspended in the early hours of the morning, but as of 9:15am are running, albeit with heavy delays.

From Metro:

“Limited bus service has been restored on all MetroBus routes that were impacted by flash flooding earlier this morning. Customers using the impacted routes should plan for significant delays:

#8 Shaw-Cherokee
#9 Oakville
#11 Chippewa
#21 Watson Road
#30 Arsenal
#31 Chouteau
#47 Hanley
#49 Lindbergh
#56 Kirkwood-Webster
#57 Manchester
#70 Grand
#73 Carondelet
#98 Ballas-North Hanley

Metro will continue to add service to these routes as floodwaters recede and buses are able to be dispatched out of the Brentwood MetroBus facility.

Flooding and traffic on area roads is also causing delays for other MetroBus routes operating in the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County, customers should allow extra time for their commutes.”
