TOMORROW → City Pop Night returns with DJs Kadobara & Van Paugam presenting a showcase of classic Japanese Jazz, Funk, and City Pop on vinyl.
On the agenda, the first ever City Pop Fit Contest. Register at Vanpaugam.com/contest to participate. QR codes will be located on the menus night of. Registration ends at 10pm, judging at 11pm, and winners announced at midnight 🌙
1st place → Brand new copy of Tomoko Aran’s Fuyu-Kukan, 1 ticket to the Godzilla Gala donated by the , and chocolate donated by 🎌

The category is City Pop Aesthetic—Think 70s and 80s Japan with a bubble-economy spin. This is not a costume contest, please be respectful and stay authentic. More details leading up the the night 🌃

Today, our first Citypop afternoon session with MUSHI, at 3pm. Maia beach bar Da Nang is the only venue currently vibing with these sounds.
It’s classy music genre from the early 80’s ( シティ・ポップ ) originally from Japan, with a Jazzpop vibe sprinkled with rnb, funk and disco. 
Has been back in fashion in the last 2 or 3 years due to some recent remixes and loop samplings from JENEVIVE, THE WEEKEND, and others, but mainly due to the extensive vinyl dig from our hero DJ Van Paugam whom we have been talking to for years, as we been fans of the genre for many many years.

After much consideration, and in light of my recent trip to Japan, and the support of many people, I think I will continue to spin City Pop in 2024. I think I will try a slightly different approach, and nothing is set in stone, but if it brings some joy to people then it’s a valuable contribution to the community worth doing.
