Join us at the Orient Express on August 12th for Steam. Underscore's new monthly that showcases the 4/4 music we love with the friends we value! DJs will be rotating through the night and we will be streaming and recording the night, getting the word about the depth of talent we have in Seattle out to the world. You can expect real house music, surprise guests, and very reasonably priced drinks (good chinese food too if you work up an appetite with all the dancin'). We start at 9 and go until 1, great for a prefunk, pop-in getdown, or getting home at a reasonable hour. 21+ | No Cover

We are excited to announce a new Underscore venture: Steam.

In searching for the right home for Back of the House, we secured second Saturdays at The Orient Express. After much deliberation and overthinking, we had a bit of an epiphany: Why not sidestep a little and try out a new concept while still working on the right fit for our original monthly showcase.

The idea is to create a night that is about the music and the dancers. There are so many house subgenres, trying to stay specific has the potential to stale. We will be rotating through them to create a vibrant and dynamic monthly that will highlight the many flavors while staying true to the core ideals of the house music dancefloor. Steam will have that consistent Underscore feel; familiar, comfortable, celebrating with your fam both old and new.

We will also be experimenting with some ideas that we’ve collected over the years. We may try a boiler room type setup, stream, have DJ games, surprise you with guests, and definitely throw some theme nights.

We are excited to share all of this, and invite you to join us at our inaugural party on Saturday July 8th 9pm-1am.

Back of the House Update:

After much consideration we are moving to a different night and different location. Starting on July 8th we will be at The Orient Express in S**o, and every 2nd Saturday thereafter. We are incubating some new ideas and will have an official announcement and details in a couple of weeks. Watch this space.

Hope everyone had a great weekend of music! It's the 2nd of week of the month - which means Back of the House is on Thursday at Still Liquor. We are honored to host the legendary Shaun Whitcher.

💡 BIO 💡
Shaun Whitcher has been involved in the electronic music scene since 1993 and started DJing shortly after in 1995. Working at Platinum Records Seattle (2000-2003) connected Shaun with other artists and promotors and was involved with several events at NAF Studios, Club FX, underground afterhours and various clubs, and a weekly radio show residency on Seattle’s Groovetech Internet Radio. In 2003, Shaun left Platinum Records to work for Rane Corporation as their Technical DJ Expert and in 2004 helped launch Serato’s Scratch Live DJ program. From 2004-2014, Shaun spearheaded Rane’s evolvement in Seattle’s legendary Decibel Festival. In 2015, Shaun was crucial to the design of Rane’s infamous MP2015 rotary DJ mixer. Fast forward 8 years to now, almost 30 years since his first rave, and you’ll find Shaun doing what he loves, dancing to house and techno music, promoting events, or behind the decks playing.
