The U.S. immigration system dismisses the humanity of those seeking asylum by refusing to acknowledge that the difference between 'good' and 'bad' immigrants is access to opportunities. They also refuse to acknowledge the connection between U.S. intervention abroad and migration. All of this while profiting from the existence of undocumented immigrants.
No person is better than any other person, despite the perceived wealth of their home country. Some of us are born with the privilege of moving between countries legally in an unjust system, others are not - but the dignity of those seeking asylum must be protected. It's not about politics, it's about decency.
Join me in donating to RAICES, a non-profit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees.
If you know anyone who refers to humans as 'good' or 'bad' in relation to their legal status, point out their dismissal of humanity and reality - they hate that.
