When I first joined the Navy back in 2004, it was a meritocracy that was an escape from society. It was "If you do your job well, you'll do well because nothing else matters." Well, after the Obama purge of military officers that thought that way, we're saddled with leadership that absolutely wants the military to mirror society...and they have been successful. There is more emphasis on the social battles that we used to be immune to because we knew our job was more important.

Those days are done.

Now, we have a Navy where the morale is low, ships don't work as built, and the Navy is throwing money at new recruits and doing whatever they have to do to retain old Sailors. This is the front page of the Navy Times website today. Look at what the top stories are and the stories that are on the sides. When President Trump was elected, I was on a ship and you had Sailors openly weeping, cursing and upset that he was elected and not Hillary Clinton. That had never happened before because it did not affect us because we knew our leadership was something that provided continuity in the meritocracy concept that we all knew.

Those days are over.

As I end my Navy career soon, its a shame that we are no longer a meritocracy. However, I will still tell people who ask me that the finest thing I have ever done was to serve in the United States Navy. -LoR

A battle for the skies" is what happens when an ocra takes on a bottlenose Dolphin. Of all the predation event we've seen in the last month, this one was by far the most prolonged. It was the first time I sincerely wondered if the dolphin might get away. We counted at least 20 different impacts similar to this, but that dolphin simply would not quit!
