Today's the day! We're incredibly excited / gassed / frothing to announce the release of Deep Sands, the debut EP by brand new artist aka Tom.

Tom hit us up on email a little over a year ago(?) saying he'd made a bunch of beats specifically with Kikuji in mind.

If you've ever seen our inbox you'd know it's a veritable minefield of expired Netflix free trials, unsolicited ads for sample packs literally no-one asked for and producers sending us music that heavily implies that not only haven't actually listened to our label's output, but may actually not even have ears on their heads at all.

As such we felt a totally mind blowing sense of refreshment when we checked Silica's tunes and not only did they absolutely foookin' bang, but they somehow fit perfectly with the complete anti-aesthetic that is the Kikuji "sound."

Fluent in the foundations of but not beholden to them, cinematic without being clichéd or unnecessarily ornate, organic without being all lentils and white people with dreadlocks... we'd never really tried to decant what Kikuji was in genre before Tom got in touch and due to his adept ear and singular sonic vision, we never had to bother: he absolutely nailed it.

Huge love to the family for hosting an exclusive mix from Ploom which features a heavy blend of his own tracks, dubs from friends and some classic cuts that are rare as hen's teeth.

Prior to his work as a producer Ploom was a key member of Macabre Unit (DJ T_!) so to say his record collection and knowledge of dubstep and grime goes deep is an understatement.

Also Ploom came about in the days when you shelled a dance and word travelled via shows and community as to who had the tunes and who was a must-see.

None of this posting selfies, photographing your overpriced trainers and documenting your every musically unrelated move in a bid to convince everyone you're an artist worth engaging with.

That's why you don't see Ploom around in the digital world so much. That's why his photo isn't even on this mix.

Brapple, the first single from Ploom's forthcoming EP Murmuration is out now.

Huge love to the DJs spinning it in raves, the streamers streaming it on the streams(?) and everyone buying it in stores and on our Bandcamp.

In fact ESPECIALLY everyone buying it in stores and on our Bandcamp.

The best way to support art you love and admire is to pay for it. All this "access everything whenever wherever (shout-out Shakira) for a tenner a month" is great for the consumer but it is ultimately destructive to the creativity of artists as franklyit's hard to get in the zone and make a classic when you're working a 60hr a week zero hours contract job for Dominoes.

Sidenote: an unsanctioned remix without stems is called a bootleg.

Cavern Song, one of the deeper more introspective cuts on the EP, is a subterranean excursion into meditative, azure blue waters.
