I think......! Ok so here's where I admit that this is my first school holiday rodeo and although I've being working from home for years and did the work/parenting juggle in lockdown, I'm feeling a little anxious. Will I have enough time to spend with the rascal but still enough time to work? Have we planned enough fun stuff and days out? Have we got enough/too much childcare?
There's so much pressure to create wonderful summer memories with your kid while still carrying on like everything is normal at work, especially if you're self employed. I'm very lucky, I work with lovely people who are in similar situations and really do understand, but if you're a school holiday pro, I'd love to know your advice! How do you do it? Or do we just wing it and hope for the best?!

When 30,000 odd cheerleaders are competing at the Bournemouth international Centre this weekend and you're responsible for announcing their competition results!

It's an absolute privilege and as an ex dancer, right up my street!

Confused?! I don’t blame you! Sometimes voiceover directions can be a little…..contradictory.

When I started out, this was kind of unnerving but (quite) a few years and very many scripts later, It’s part of the fun of the job for me and also, let’s face it, sometimes quite amusing for everyone involved!

Dealing with every sort of script and direction challenge you can think of on the daily, has me completely unfazed and I totally get that it’s all about getting to the sound you need, in whatever way describes it best. So, hit me with your best and don’t worry! However you ask me to say it, I know what you mean and the answer is: Yes! I can!

The end goal for me is always happy clients, so it's the best feeling when you give me lovely feedback!

This was from a live event I did for Vitality a few weeks ago and it was a privilege to work with such a great company and team! Thanks so much for having me as your voice of God at your Tech Tribe awards. What a pleasure it was to be a part of, and to see all of your talented people celebrating their successes with their teams!

From my studio, I work with companies all over the UK and internationally, but I'm a big supporter of local business in my little coastal corner of the world, so this event being at the Bournemouth International Centre gave me extra good vibes!

It’s been over a decade since I started out as a voiceover artist, so I thought it was time I introduced myself properly!

Hi, I’m Lucy! Lovely to meet you!

You may have heard my voice between the songs on the Heart radio network! I also record commercials for radio, TV and social media, corporate explainer videos, on hold telephone messages, live events and everything else in between.

Before voiceovers, I was a radio presenter, where I fell in love with the powerful way audio connects, one to one. I’m still hooked on creating that connection with my voiceover work!

Building relationships with my clients is one of the things I love most about my job. I feel lucky I get to work with amazing people, and happy clients who come back again is the biggest compliment I could ever receive.

In case you didn’t guess from all the beach pics, I live by the sea on the south coast of the UK! This, and the fact I’m Mum to a 5 year old, means there’s always sand in my house! Insta v reality right there!

I’ll go first….
This morning I went to my son’s school and did a talk on being a voiceover artist to his ENTIRE YEAR.

120 five year olds! 😱

I’ve done national radio shows, live events and goodness only knows how many voiceover sessions and I’ve never been more terrified!

Seriously though, when I was 5 I had no idea what a voiceover artist was, so it was lovely to be able to open some little eyes to the idea of a less conventional, more creative job that is fulfilling, pays the bills and gives a great work, life balance. I very much enjoyed flying the flag for the creative industries and self employment, so our kids know that there are lots of different options open to them when they are older.

After I got over the fear of course! 😉xx

Radio is such a powerful way to hear voices and stories and connect with fellow humans.
Before voiceovers, I was a radio presenter. I fell in love with the way radio connects one to one. It’s a special privilege to be on air and something I will always be hugely proud of and grateful for as it also led to my voiceover career.
I’m still hooked on creating that personal connection now as a voiceover artist and I’m so lucky that radio is still a big part of my life.

Our beautiful boy turned 5 on Saturday and we had a lovely weekend celebrating him and us, including a date night we felt we deserved for keeping a small person safe and happy for 5 whole years! I realised today that I’ve now been a Mummy for over half my Voiceover life! A lovely fellow Voiceover asked me about having a baby as a VO recently and it reminded me that I definitely thought I’d just strap my baby to myself and get straight back in the booth! 🤣😬The reality was very different for me but after 5 years of juggling, Mum guilt and figuring out how our team works best, I feel like we’re in a great place. Happy Birthday Aus, our little gem! Thanks for the life lessons and of course the daily laughter and epic cuddles!

Ending the year with a lovely new voiceover gig…
and the radio geek in me is loving this one! Radio is a huge passion of mine - I was a radio presenter before I became a voiceover artist so it’s always exciting to me when I hear my voiceover work on air.
I’ve been a station imaging voice for for a few years
and now I’m very proud to also be one of the new imaging voices for The Official Big Top 40 on Heart And Capital!
It’s amazing to hear what the hugely talented Sound Design Team do with my voice so thank you for the opportunity! Also, how cool is this intro link from !, Passionate stylish and effortless! 😍

Team work… well you know the rest!
It’s easy to feel like you’re a solo artist when you work from home, especially when you work from home in a soundproof box, but in actual fact Voiceover Artistry is very much a team sport!
Whether self recording a project or working with a producer in a live session, it’s always a collaboration to achieve a great finished result.
I got the best reminder of this last week, hanging out with one of the amazing teams I work with! Forever grateful for these superstars and of course for the chance to talk to actual people in person! 😉😍xx

Panda’s totally nailing the Christmas 2021 vibes here! 🤣
I so hope you are winning at pre Christmas Covid roulette because that ship sailed for us last week. Dan and Aus both tested positive and then today, just as the news broke about the shorter self isolation period, I had a positive lateral flow test. So, it’s looking like a very quiet Christmas for us.
Fortunately our symptoms are mild and although we’re gutted not to get to spend Christmas with the fam, we’re trying to see it as a bit of extra chill time (well, as chilled as it gets with a toddler to entertain!) Plus it means I’m definitely on hand for any last minute voice bits that come in! 😉
It’s been another stressful December for many of us so if you’re feeling a bit Panda too at the mo, I hope you have a lovely Christmas whatever that looks like this year. ###

‘Christmas’ and ‘magical’ are two words I say a lot as a voiceover in December.
It doesn’t get much more magical than seeing Christmas through the eyes of your little one so next time I get a script containing those words I will think of this picture of Aussie enjoying the wonder of the Swanage steam and lights train.
Well for about 15 mins anyway before he tried to escape under the table and run down the carriage giggling because…toddlers! 🙄🤣 xx
