(I am gonna use me/we/I pronouns in this post, but this is not about me, you or anyone who has supported me or content creators in the past. I’m talking about in general, and I appreciate your support.)

Let’s talk content creation.

I’ve been seeing a few people online saying that YouTubers, Artists, Streamers, etc don’t deserve the money that they make because ‘all they do is sit around and make stuff for the internet’.

Well, yeah, we do. If we don’t make content, you don’t have anything to look at when you’re sitting on the phone or computer. Stuff that you consume every day to make your day better, inform you, teach you something or otherwise.

There are people out there that disrespect creators for editing in advertising in their videos. Which I understand, because they need money to pay their bills.

There are people out there who say that people who create ‘should get a real job’ or ‘don’t deserve the money’. Even if they enjoy their content. Because they feel like the only ‘legitimate way’ of making money is going to a job, clocking in, working for low wages and driving themselves crazy when they, instead, can do something they enjoy, enjoy success, make money and pay those same bills.

It’s almost like creating content is a work from home/entrepreneurial service. It’s hard work thinking about what to talk about, what to drive in views, or what makes people stay. They deserve every bit of success they get, just as much as a plumber or a contractor.

The disrespect that creators get is unwarranted.

Think about it this way: If, say, the wonderful Extra History channel on YouTube is teaching you history, you learn from it, you enjoy it, you give it likes and subs. And you do that because they appreciate that they taught you something that you didn’t know, and they post an ad for say NordVPN in their video. Do they not have the right to make money off of something that they made? Absolutely they do.

Now, think of a preacher. Every Sunday they teach you the Bible and interpret it for you so that you can learn this tome and feel like you’ve fed your spirit. Some of these preachers are online, but most have a Church they teach from. What makes that different from a bunch of followers or subscribers? Do they have the right to ask for donations to pay their bills, upgrade the church or make their lives better? Definitely.

The difference is that they solicit donations differently. One asks you to hit their patreon or visit their advertiser. One asks you to pass the collection plate. I see no difference in this, and I don’t believe you should either.

If the preacher isn’t there to teach you the Bible or how to worship, then what’s the point of church?

If a content creator isn’t there to make content for us, what is the point of the Internet?

If there are no creators, the big internet companies make all the money for a dry, toxic, and very much boring internet that does nothing for you. Bigger sites will get their money and all the advertising you’ll see is double, and then nobody will want to use the internet because it will just be a chore to use, not the internet we love right now.

So the next time you think about badmouthing creators and say that they don’t deserve money for their work, think about the plumber, preacher and the entrepreneur.

Supporting Small Businesses is always cool.

So is supporting a creator.

BIG NEWS!!

Over the last couple of years, we’ve been doing ABCs of Pride, and raised about $3,000 for The Trevor Project on Twitch, helping LGBTQIA+ Youth have the resources for Mental Health and Su***de prevention provided by Trevor, including confidential conversations on phone and online, as well as advocating for Pro-LGBTQIA+ legislation so that our voices can be heard and our rights be preserved.

Over the last 3 years, we confined ABCP to one week in June. But unfortunately, we’ve had some streamers want to participate but don’t because of the time constraints over that week.

Well, since Pride month is 31 days long, we’re excited to say we’re going for the whole month this year!

Registration for ABCs of Pride for Streamers will be opening later this week! Stay tuned for more info!
