Within North Asian shamanic traditions, every family has its own household fire spirit, which can bless and protect the household and blood relatives. In this class, we will broadly explore the different types of household and hearth spirits and gods. But for those who are not tied to specific cultural deities & spirits, we will also explore the generic household fire spirit, which is general enough and practical for anyone to recognize and work with even if they are not North Asian, as well as how to employ a fire ceremony to strengthen your own household.
David Shi is a shamanic worker and folk magic practitioner who primarily engages in traditional North Asian forms of shamanism. He is primarily of Manchurian descent, but can also trace ancestry to Mongolian, Chinese, Korean, as well as a little Tungus Siberian and ancient Central Asian Turkic heritage as well. Raised in a household that incorporated both Southeast Siberian and North Chinese practices, David has dedicated his spare time to the study of the spiritual traditions of his ancestors and of greater Eurasia. Recognized as a sagaasha/ongodtengertei, a future shaman prior to initiation, among both Mongolian and Korean shamans, David’s practices are deeply rooted in spirit work in which ancestral and land spirits are called to empower all workings. David’s readings incorporate a combination of Tarot, Runes, Bones, Jaw-harp, as well as Mongolian stone divination (known as Kumalak in Turkic Central Asia). Maria Wander is an NYC-based High Priestess, a CAP-ISAR certified astrologer, Director for the National Council of Geocosmic Research, astrological magician and budding herbalist. She creates astrologically elected remedies, herbal/gem tinctures, and vibrational flower essences. Maria is an adept reader of Tarot, Destiny Card Science and Lenormand cartomancy, a clinical hypnotherapist and university professor. She holds a doctorate in nursing with specialty as a board certified biomedical informaticist. As an author she is co-writer of Capricorn Witch with Ivo Dominguez, Jr., for Llewelyn, published June 2024. Maria recognizes that the Universe is alive and communicates through the creative intelligence of patterned cycles, a part of a larger pattern like scalable images contained in a hologram fragment containing the entirety of the hologram itself. As a magickal person, she strives to be of service to the collective. In addition to consulting for clients, Maria teaches classes, workshops and holds group studies.

Lora O'Brien is a modern Draoí (Irish magic practitioner) and a dedicated priest of the Irish Goddess Mórrígan since 2004. With over 30 years of experience in Irish spirituality and indigenous practices, Lora has authored seven books on Irish history, mythology, witchcraft, and Pagan priesthood, with her eighth, focused on the Mórrígan, set to be published by Llewellyn in 2025. She holds a Masters in Irish Regional History, specialising in Ogham and Irish Identity, and founded both the Ogham Academy and the Mórrígan Academy. As co-founder of the Irish Pagan School and Pagan Life Rites Ireland, Lora has created a vast amount of community-driven content. Laura Tempest Zakroff (she/they) is a professional artist, author, performer, and Modern Traditional Witch based in New England. She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and her artwork has received awards and honors worldwide. Her work embodies myth and the esoteric through her drawings and paintings, jewelry, talismans, and other designs. Laura is the author of several bestselling Llewellyn books including Weave the Liminal, Sigil Witchery, Visual Alchemy, and Anatomy of a Witch, as well as the artist and author of the Anatomy of a Witch Oracle and The Liminal Spirits Oracle. Meet presenter Mhara Starling - The Welsh Witch who will be leading the workshop: "Welsh Fairies and Familiar Spirits"
Welsh mythology and folklore is filled to the brim with tales of Otherworldly beings. These beings are sometimes benevolent, and oftentimes extremely mischievous or even malevolent. However, one thing is certain: They have a strong association with magic within a Welsh context. During this talk we will explore the intersection between Welsh fairies and magic. Delving into the connection between many of the popular Welsh deities among Pagans today, such as Rhiannon, Gwyn ap Nudd, and Cerridwen, and their association with the Otherworld and fairies. Beyond this, we will also take a quick look at folk magic and the ways in which magical specialists forged relationships with fairies. This talk will not only offer an insight into folklore and magical belief, but also provide a framework as to how one might incorporate certain practices into a modern magical practice.
Mhara Starling was born in North Wales, raised on the Isle of Anglesey, and speaks Welsh as her native language. She is a Swynwraig, a modern day Welsh Witch, and her practice is inspired and informed by the traditions of her culture's past, whilst being firmly rooted in the here and now. She is also an Awenydd of the Anglesey Druid Order, a published author, and teaches on the subject of Welsh magic and lore both online and in person.
