Taking in Lisbon’s cultural sights… one restaurant at a time. My third time here is definitely a charm — the food this time round was *even* better than the dishes my memories served.

I already miss eating those juiiiiiiicy scarlet prawns and the octopus doused in olive oil. Oooh ooh and plucking off dozens of oysters gleefully in record time… AND DID YOU SEE THE SIZE OF THAT CAMEMBERT?! It was HUGE and was soaking in honey and thyme! I had a lot of… time… for that. (The pun was right there - I couldn’t resist that, or the cheese ok) even the staff were amused watching us eat and react to the food 😂

See you next time, Lisbon! I’ve got a few more reels of restaurants and bars to recommend to serve as lil virtual souvenirs until then.

I’m back in London celebrating some GREAT NEWS continuing the seafood dinners at this buzzing spot in Soho! Look at this Fruits de Mer platter?! This was a 2 person portion…!

WHAT WE ORDERED:
- *Fruits de Mer platter (Combination of; mussels, smoked mackerel rilletes. whelks, clams, crevettes, seafood salad, Devon brown crab, 2 oysters 6 Nordic Blu salmon sashimi) one person is £35/2 person portion is £68

- *Clams with white wine, garlic and cream sauce £12.50 (must order!)

- *Wild caught gambas, salsa verde and chilli £24

- Seafood linguine, clams, shrimps, mussels, king
prawn, Pernod sauce £22.50

- Truffle Parmesan chips £7.50

*Would order again! Love the Fruits de Mer platter minus the brown crab which was far too sweet for me!

Prices are on the higher side but the quality of the seafood, the portion sizes and the service (Florian our server was spectacular, super thoughtful and even remembered one of the guests didn’t drink so brought them a little plate of sweets as a digestif instead of a limoncello as a surprise at the end!)

Fabulous spot for a special occasion, a bougie date night or celebratory dinner!

Hello! I’m back in London… until a trip to Portugal next weekend 🇵🇹👀 but I still have a lot more Japan food reels to post before a *whole new Japan series* goes live on YouTube. This will be a much more detailed account of what I got up to, transport information (specifically around Japan Rail Pass) and everything I ate - so the short-form reels acted as a teaser for each day and meal!

Been squirrelling away working on the edits and getting stuck in at BBC (it feels SO great to feel welcomed back to an amazing team and getting straight into some v. v. EXCITING projects - being a freelancer can get very lonely and I never thought I’d ever miss being in the office but here i am)

Nobody asked but right now, I’m obsessed with White Lotus. Late to the bandwagon but stormed through both seasons and all is left is me repeatedly bleating quotes from both series and listening to the season 2 score on the tube feeling v giddy.

Happy Lunar New Year! 恭喜發財! 祝大家新年快樂!!! 🧧 To those who are celebrating, I hope you’re having an incredible weekend so far (and it’s full of all your favourite foods!)

Wishing you a healthy, happy, joyous, prosperous (lol ofc) and a fruitful year ahead. May this Year of the Rabbit (and Cat!!) bring you all that you dream of 🐇🧧🐈

Interrupting the feed with today’s day of events from Kamakura, Hase and Enoshima! Went on a day trip from Tokyo to visit the temples, shrines and the coastal cities/islands — I’m SO EXCITED to edit the YouTube vlogs for you to see. Was blessed with incredible weather, a gentle breeze and even had a lucky sighting of Mount Fuji peeking through the clouds. 🗻 I’ve fallen in love with these places. I know I say this about everywhere I go but truly, I had to peel myself away from here.

Have a wonderful week ahead (and for London pals, I’ll be sharing a London based LNY celebratory reel over the next few days detailing the various things to eat in town! Look out for it! 🥰)

My first Ted-style talk on an improv stage in London about how I fell in love over lockdown… with an air fryer. 🥲😍 Two years on, we’re still going strong and I still want to shout from the rooftops, online and on stage about our fiery relationship to everyone! This is how it went…

I had the pleasure of being one of two expert speakers at award-winning improv group Do Not Adjust Your Stage’s () flagship show The Wunderkammer at on Sunday! I’m still buzzing about it a few days on!

We each had 5 minutes to talk about a topic we’re passionate about – the team would then spring into action with a series of improvised scenes, characters and stories based on the subject! Each show is unique, hilarious, witty and made me CRY from laughter. You leave feeling good chuckling yourself for hours after! Highly recommend grabbing a ticket as there are only TWO remaining dates (20th November and 11th December)!

Thought I’d pop my segment on here to lovingly look back on. I LOVE doing things like this. The audience were fab, the energy was full of warmth and I thrived because of it! It’s made me consider signing up to drama again or even an improv class?!

Right, I’ll stop chatting but go go go and get your tickets for Do Not Adjust Your Stage in London. They’ve had BRILLIANT minds involved - from cloning experts, a QI producer, NFT whizz to the Head of Conservation at the Natural History Museum! Who’s next?! 👀

I’ve been quiet on socials recently – but life behind the scenes has been thriving and I can’t wait to share more with you once I’m finished with the vlogs (in fact, I’ve just arrived in Whitstable on a foodie 🦪 weekend in Kent for a work trip so there’s going to be a lot of reels, stories + vlogs coming your way! And oysters!!!)

Before I fill your feeds with seafood and fantastic beer, here’s a photo dump of life lately!

AHH! I’m going to Canada tomorrow!!! 🇨🇦 Newfoundland and Labrador in Atlantic Canada to be exact! This trip has been two years in the making and it’ll be my very first time visiting the province. WHEEEEEE!

Over the coming days, I’ll be sharing the cultural sights, history and the gastronomy in the area. Most of all, I’m looking forward to meeting the locals and to hear their stories!

Ok, let me excitedly ramble on… Ever since I watched the musical Come From Away (highly recommend if you want your heart to be extra warm and fuzzy hearing stories about the kindness of strangers), I’ve wanted to visit the province. Known for its vibrant hospitality, incredible friendliness and for giving the happiest welcomes, the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are known for their empathy, compassion and warmth. I can’t wait to meet a few of them!

But, before I get giddy with sharing photos, videos and stories from my travels – I thought I’d share a few throwback snaps from my visit to Toronto, Vancouver and Montréal. Though it obviously isn’t a part of Atlantic Canada, I loved the brief amount of time I spent in those cities but… I have a sneaky feeling I’m about to love Newfoundland and Labrador EVEN MORE.

OOH!!! Few fun facts before I go. Did you know the Newfoundland dog and Labrador Retriever are the official dog breeds of the province?! And their official bird is the Atlantic Puffin?! And they even have their own breed of Newfoundland pony?! AND AND AND you can go whale watching here?! EEEEEEEE, can you tell I’m really looking forward to hopping on that plane tomorrow morning?

Right, I need to (over) pack. To anybody who’s made it this far, thank you! I can’t wait to share more of my trip with you! See you in the morning!!! (Psst… this cover image was a recent picture from Greece which has nothing to do with this post - but it was either than or the one of me holding two baskets of soup dumplings lolol) .canada.tourism

My heart feels so full ♥️ thank you for taking the time to wish me a happy birthday on Friday!

We’ve been enjoying a long weekend of island life in Alonissos where we: squeezed fresh lemon over seafood, indulged in espresso freddo/freddo cappuccinos and freshly baked pastries every single morning, had lazy days dipping in and out of pebbly beaches, poured large glasses of Greek wine, was bowled over by the warmth and hospitality of the locals, gushed over the elderly couples and getting P to ask each one how long they’ve been together, made friends with the doggies and kitties and marvelled at everything we set our eyes on. The Old Village looked like an idyllic fairytale with the stone houses, local shops sending handcrafted jewellery/honey/wine and cobble streets!

I keep tearing up from how happy, lucky and grateful I feel to be able to enjoy this little slice of heaven here and with tbe people I love! A million thank yous to for making me feel so special/loved/happy every single day and for this birthday and to P’s beautiful family for tirelessly arranging our meals/transport/accommodation, translating everything from menus to directions to ensuring we are all having the best time! These are some of the best memories I could ever have wished for and I can’t express how much I appreciate you and this whole holiday 🥺♥️!

And so, so, so many thank youuuus to for flying over to celebrate in between your busy lives. Having my childhood sister/best friend of 24 years here experiencing Greece for the first time together, singing me happy birthday songs at midnight to sliding my handwritten birthday card and spare loo roll from the balcony has been the absolute cherry on top. It wouldn’t have been the same without you two, your jokes, willingness to share food and 1kg bottles of wine aha ♥️

Few more days of city life, sunshine and as many tzatziki/Greek food and sunshine we can muster! The WiFi and signal on the island have been sketchy so be prepared for a lot of posts and delayed replies! 🌞🇬🇷🏝

ad A reminder: women drink whisky too! In fact, we make up about a third of the total audience! 🥃

Now, it’s a known fact your girl loves a strong, punchy cocktail. Whisky is my spirit of choice and an Old Fashioned or Sazerac are my all time favourites. But I’ve lost count of the amount of times a mixologist has dismissed my order with something along the lines of:

“You do realise this is a strong WHISKY cocktail, right?”
“Don’t you want a strawberry daiquiri or lychee martini instead?”
“You don’t look like the type to drink this…”

It’s no wonder these are the typical responses given the stereotypes we see associated with the spirit. I mean, when you type in “whisky drinker” on a search engine, it’s dominated with stereotypical pictures of middle aged white men clinking their glasses having a jolly good time. But what about the rest of us?!

This is why I ADORE ’s campaign. They’re on a mission to break the algorithm with a series of diverse drinkers from different ages and backgrounds instead! AAAAND you can get your hands on a drink for FREE from now until the 19th June if you head down to the pop up bar at in Bethnal Green. Just upload a picture of you online posing with one of four custom Scotch-based cocktails with in your story and you get a cocktail in return.

The drinks are GREAT and there’s a range of different flavours depending on whether you’re a seasoned whisky fan, after something a lil different or fancy an introduction to it! It’s exactly my cup of tea. Well, actually, my type of whisky cocktail (lol).

As I mentioned in my reel caption, it’s an added bonus a portion of proceeds from both the free cocktail (and each additional cocktail purchased) will be donated to Equal Measures, an organisation founded to deliver greater equity for ethnic minorities and marginalised groups in hospitality. A great initiative to get your friends down and try out the four cocktails between the group!

Must be 18+ to participate. Please drink responsibly.

ad Oh my cod, let’s talk about Icelandic seafood. Now, the Land of Fire and Ice is known for its diverse dramatic landscapes with its beauty extending to Europe’s largest glaciers, waterfalls, mountains, black sand lava pearl beaches and active volcanoes (just to name a few) – but we need a moment to marvel its array of delicious seafood on offer.

As the biggest export out of the island, fishing is an integral part of Iceland’s history and has long formed the cultural fabric of the island. From mastering the waters, battling the changing challenging weather to combining traditions with innovative state-of-the-art technology, it’s a familial practise carefully passed down from generation to generation and we had the absolute honour of enjoying a taster of the sea-to-plate quality produce. So… here’s a selection of some of my favourite dishes!

1. A moment marvelling Kirkjufell in Grundarfjörður,– Iceland’s most photographed mountain framed by stunning waterfalls and coastlines

2. One of my favourite dishes of the week - halibut tartare with apple, nasturtium, dill and wasabi mayo

3. Deep fried cod cheeks (followed by Icelandic mussels with white wine and saffron and wolfish with celeriac purée, brown butter sauce and dill)- delectable!

4. Lump fish roe with cream cheese and sourdough bread

5. A seafood platter of dreams at trying black seagull eggs for the first time, sea truffle, sea snails and fresh scallops

6. Roasted lamb with root vegetables at Borgarnes’ Settlement Centre

7. Trying plokkfiskur – a traditional Icelandic fish stew! Every family has their own recipe! My favourite was trying it at a local’s house in Stykkishólmur with black pepper (it’s usually with white pepper but OOOFT this version was SO good)

8. Sea urchin at – one of my all-time favourite seafood dishes! I may or may not have swiped four of these...

9. Saltfiskur (salted cod) infused with Indian spices (inspired by ) with pickled mustard seeds and celeriac at

10. Cod cheek tacos by Viktor Örn Andrésson – one of Iceland’s most notable chefs!

THE SECRET IS OUT! I’ve been teasing about this long enough 😅 I’ve started a placement with as their new Creator in Residence at !!! AHH!!! The news has officially gone out to press today and it feels surreal to *FINALLY* be able to share this after keeping it quiet for so long! IT’S REAL! IT’S HAPPENING! IT HASN’T BEEN A DREAM! 🥹

Supported by via ’s Diverse Voices, I’ll be working in-house at with the Digital Originals team! We have an *INCREDIBLE* opportunity to be mentored from the experts and learn from the teams about all things TV from development, writing, pitching, presenting, production to pitching each of our original ideas to commissioners at the end of it!

So happy to be on this journey with the dream team and - we’ve all been so giddy with excitement/happiness/emotion in person and WhatsApp 😂♥️

This is LIFE CHANING – on a personal level and professional. As someone who’s dreamed of working in the industry, I’ll forever be extraordinary grateful to and for believing in me and for selecting me as one of our Creator Residents ♥️♥️♥️! Not seeing much representation on our screens when I was growing up is precisely why I started these online platforms… so I’m still in disbelief that it’s come full circle now. Determined to talk about all things food, travel, heritage and identity to (hopefully) bring to our screens very soon! Bring on the next chapter! ECSTATIC to be a BBC Studios TalentWorks X Meta Creator in Residence! 🎉🌞♥️

Last night in London… I’ve finished packing hours before bedtime for once! Can’t wait to tell you where I’m flying to tomorrow, it’s a country I’ve *always* dreamed of visiting and the itinerary over the next week is INCREDIBLE. Pinching myself but more on that later… 🤫

Had a fabulous evening yesterday watching the Eurovision Grand Final at with the Italian Tourism Board! If there were ever an occasion for a sequin dress and face gems, this event would be it.

We enjoyed a selection of fine Italian wines, cooed over the mini lasagnes, squeezed lemon over the calamari, whooped and circled wins at Eurovision bingo (with a black eyeliner pencil lol), posed with the props and shimmied along to all the performances! A big thank you to for hosting us 🥰 adding Turin to my list of places to go (and well, while we’re at it… a food and wine tour around the country would be even better)!

Okay, off to charge my cameras and start preparing for tomorrow’s flight! Wish me luck everything will go smoothly 😅

We’ve reached 70,000 subscribers on YouTube!!! 🥳🎉 What a milestone to start the week on! Thank you for taking time out of your day to watch the videos, staying subscribed and for letting little ol’ me fill your screens with pixelated food, travel and lifestyle!

Speaking of which… I’m flying to a new DREAM destination next Monday to film a food and travel series (*I’m so excited, I could burst* don’t want to jinx it so I’ll reveal when I’m there but here’s a clue: 🔥❄️🕵🏻‍♀️). I’m editing the Belize travel vlogs (so excited to finally share it with you!!!) and I’m buzzing around London in a constant state of happiness, wonder and disbelief (with my vlog camera in hand so at least it’s somewhat productive).

Very exciting times ahead and I can’t wait to tell you more. Hooray!!! But for now, I’m getting back into the Belize edit before meeting a friend for dinner tonight 🥳 LOVE YOU!!! ♥️

What a day! WHAT A YEAR?! I’m wrapping up on one of (if not, the most!) life-changing, exciting and important shoots of my career so far. It’s a big part of the top secret project I’ve been *annoyingly* teasing you about… but we’re only a few weeks away from the huge announcement eeeeee!!! I can’t talk about it yet but… What do we think it is? I’ve wanted to shout about it from the rooftops since I found out but… patience. PATIENCE. A few more weeks, Shu!!! So, enjoy this picture of me being very happy in the sunshine in Greenwich instead 🥲

Even though I’m being very cryptic, I wanted to write this post to present and future Shu to remind myself to take this all in and savour every moment. No overthinking. No replaying every moment later on wondering what I could be better. No self-doubting. Let all these overspilling, buzzing, ecstatic, bubbling and exciteable feelings whizzpop and whizzbang all over the place! I never know how to play it cool anyway.

Right, we’re about to do another shoot then go for a celebratory dinner with the wider team. Already looked at the menu (which is fab) and I can’t wait to get into bed and be all “AHHH TODAY HAPPENED. It’s happening! It wasn’t a dream.” Baby Shu wouldn’t believe it. 🥹🥹🥹

This post makes no sense but I just wanted to write down all these happy emotions. Jfoswnchiaiwbeksajveuwhevrhriwn (that’s me typing gibberish on my keyboard to show how excited I am) 🌞

I was appointed co-pilot on the plane! Wanted to sing “I BELIZE I CAN FLY… I BELIZE I CAN TOUCH THE SKY” but refrained the karaoke moment for once in my life. Took great responsibility to ensure everybody’s safety by… not pressing all of the buttons in front of me (it was very tempting to do so).

Here is a photo series of what we saw during our twenty minute flight. Seeing one of the greatest natural wonders of the world held my breath, brought tears to the eyes and made the hairs on my arm stand to attention. Time temporarily slowed down – but sped past all at once.

It made me realise how minuscule we are – a little speck living on this tiny blue planet. It was – dare I say it – unbelizeable. 😏

I never ever want to take these opportunities to travel for granted and moments like this have gratitude spilling over in abundance. All in all, such a surreal bucket list experience and I cannot thank the teams involved enough for organising. This is the kind of trip I’ll be telling my neighbours, strangers on the bus, the dim sum server and future grandchildren about forever, I’m sure.

ad City or island life? Snow or sunshine? The latter for me! Jetlagged mornings meant 4:30am wake ups, lazy sunrise strolls on the island and cuddles with Caye Caulker’s friendly doggos before an afternoon of snorkelling with turtles, string rays and sharks. And seeing the world’s largest living barrier reef system casually making waves from your boat. What a week!

ad Hello from Belize! 🇧🇿 First time in this beautiful country and there are already so many things I love about it (in the 48 hours I’ve been here):

• The warmth, humour and hospitality of the people we’ve met so far!

• The scenic views. We’ve been staying in the Cayo District and the eco-hotel is surrounded by 7,000 acres of land, rare birds and mahogany fireplace lounges. More on that in my hotel reel..veal later 👀

• Marie Sharp’s hot sauce - a big fan of hot sauce, heard so many good things about this one and can confirm the rumours are true. It is SO GOOD. Hot yet flavourful!

• Adventure, nature and action at every corner. I went ATM caving yesterday. No cameras are allowed so I want to sit down and have a proper natter with you over a chatty FaceTime-esque video and a cup of coffee! It was one of the best experiences… Ever. There were magnificent stalactites and stalagmites, Ancient Maya ceramics (that required full body climbs), skeletal remains from 900 AD and a pitch black swim through clear turquoise pools. Catch up to come!

Today, we’re heading to a teeny tiny island where the only form of transport is either barefoot or via golf cart. Saying a brief goodbye to the rainforest and Belizean jungle, getting ready to welcome the beach! 🏝

I don’t know whether The Good Place’s “Ya Basic” quote or Lizzie McGuire’s “HEY NOW HEY NOWWWWW IS THIS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF?” serve as a better soundtrack to these pictures. Either way, this sparkly series of late night snaps with my golden girl make me sunshine beam and smile lots.

Me propping my phone against a lamp post on self timer to take these photos doesn’t but we were too deliriously full from exquisite sushi at Dining Hall to care 🌝 is the Lizzie McGuire movie song in your head now? Ya welcome!

17/03/2022

As a woman, and a (British Chinese) woman of colour, there have been countless times growing up where I felt an overwhelming pressure to silence, invalidate and shrink myself down in situations to keep peace, not cause “conflict”, be “submissive”, uphold the unspoken expectations of being “always bubbly/positive” and not raise the moments that, quite frankly, had deeply impacted my mental (and physical) health.

Why am I so quick to shut up, apologise and self-blame in order to not upset/cause stress/anger others? I don’t know whether it’s associated with people-pleasing tendencies (something I’m working on with my therapist) or a conditioned set of behaviours I default to as a result of my upbringing… But, the issue with continuously letting the same patterns unfold then directly contributes to keeping things bottled so much that tension is built, conversations are escalated and I’m left feeling emotionally, mentally and physically drained.

The worst is, I simultaneously then feel guilt (yet relief), disappointment (yet pride) and anger at myself for ever daring to voice something I feel. The difference is, I’m actively trying to communicate better, be more honest and not sweep things under the rug just because it temporarily feels “easier” to do so. It’s a disservice to myself and the others around me.

This post was fully inspired by the ever wonderful - please read her latest article on .n’s website. As Viv said, whether it’s a sadistic hunger or not, there’s a constant feeling of wanting to seek out similar experiences from others to validate our own feelings and emotions as being completely justifiable. As heartbreaking as it is to read about the traumas faced by your brilliant and courageous friend (, that’s you!), I really want to thank Viv (and the wider .n team) for taking the time to work on this article to share with us. It’s validating, collectively soothing and I’m always so in awe of Viv and the team - how they inspire and evoke so much inner strength within us to stand up and be proud of who we inherently are, our sense of self and confidence to lead with this. Grateful.

It’s been a while since a noodle pull, hey?! Slurped up a storm at for their new Godzilla pop up at Heddon Yokocho – the first of its kind in Europe with a special set menu featuring this Gojira Volcano ramen (Heddon Yokocho’s signature miso chicken and pork broth, Godzilla inspired heat ray sauce and extra pork belly). It’s got a mild kick so a good one for those who like a little bit of chilli :) (PR meal)

There’s also a “Wake Me Up in Tokyo” Japanese whisky cocktail, “Mothra’s Favourite mochi ice cream” and “King of the Monsters” matcha cheesecake but I’ll save that for tomorrow’s reel where you can see the lot!

Available in the venue all of March and then it’s gone! If you’re a big Godzilla fan, there’s special merch, retro movie posters and banners at the restaurant too. Well worth a look (and slurp)

ad Hello from Manchester! My first time properly visiting this city and I now completely get the hype! Tell me your food and drinks recommendations please - I’ll be returning very, very soon! The rain even held off too!

It couldn’t have got off to a better start than with two food tours with . From hip hop fish and chips, hearty pub grub, black pudding croquettes, pork pies with nduja ketchup to bonus ESEA eats - I’ve been walking all around the Northern Quarter, City Centre and Ancoats filling up my tummy with my new favourite foods.

The best part is, you can save money on the food tours if you redeem a £25 off voucher with your Lotto ticket as part of the National Lottery Days Out campaign! We’re talking hundreds of participating venues and activities. The British Airways i360 viewing tower, Savouring Bath Food tour and LegoLand are just a few examples! In my opinion, the money you save from this… should go directly back into the extra food you can get. Win win.

Pop over to NationalLotteryDaysOut.com to take advantage of the offer! Special shout out to the jian bing food stall (that’s been high on my list for SO long and was even better than I imagined) and the incredible roast meats at ! That duck. The siu yuk pork belly. The salt and pepper pork chops! Whew! I’ll be back, MCR. See you very soon!
