Part 2 of 3

🖋 Our theme for Issue 10 is SYNCHRONICITY.

Psychology Today describes synchronicity as a phenomenon in which people interpret two separate—and seemingly unrelated—experiences as being meaningfully intertwined, even though there is no evidence that one led to the other or that the two events are linked in any other causal way. The concept was first introduced by analytical psychologist Carl G. Jung in the late ’20s/early ’30s. It’s been difficult for science to explain this idea of coincidences that can feel quite supernatural.

It’s a big word for those little moments that we’ve probably all had: Thinking about someone you haven’t talked to in years, and then receiving a text from them; seeing the same numbers while going about your day (11:11, for example); making a connection between events that feels like a sign. At times, it can be difficult to talk about these things because it’s hard to explain what they mean, but we want you to try! Let’s load up this issue with unexplainable moments of magic. ✨

Part 3 of 3

When we set out to create Wildheart, part of our motivation was to bring together a community that craved a space for their words to be published and use their words to connect with one another. It has felt nothing short of magical to see this community come together, most recently, lending a hand in unison when Jordan lost her husband last month. We are incredibly grateful for every supportive word, every share, and every dollar you contributed. Our sincere thanks go out to each and every one of you. 💛

Dear Wildhearts,

Our Editor in Chief, Jordan Bird, lost her husband, Jared, in a helicopter accident this week while fighting the Moose Fire in Idaho.

Jared was 36 years old, a veteran, an incredible pilot, a loving husband, and a great friend. Our hearts are broken.

Please consider clicking the link in our bio for details on how you can help. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Fernanda.

➡️ What has given you the most hope in the last two years?

We asked 7 Wildhearts this question, and their answers were so inspiring and insightful. It was a great reminder of how connected we all are. How would you answer this question?

🌱 THEME ANNOUNCEMENT 🌱
Our theme for Issue 9 is HOPE.

Hope is such a uniquely human endeavor. It’s easy to be hopeful when things are going well; it’s much harder to have hope when times are hard. And uh…there’s been a lot of hard lately. While here in Alaska it is starting to feel like things are getting “back to normal,” that’s not the case for other parts of the world. So, we’re really interested to explore this idea with you over the next few months. ✨ You’ve got until April 3rd to send in your submissions! (Link in bio for all the info on that)

Wildheart would simply not exist without so many incredible women—the ones helping out behind the scenes, the ones going on adventures and taking incredible photos, the ones that spend hours writing their stories, the ones that sell the magazine in their shops, the ones that advertise with us, the ones that help us brainstorm, the ones that encourage us when it gets hard. Shown here are just a *fraction* of those women. Thank you for being here—we’re so grateful for you always.

🍂 The leaves are changing, so you know what that means: it's time to grab your favorite pen or pencil (does anyone actually write in pencil?) and tell us a story!
——————
🖋 Our theme for Issue 08 is GRIT.
Grit is a bit of a nebulous concept, yet we all know what it means: an indomitable spirit, pluck, not giving up. (It's also the glacial silt that sticks to everything when you've been traipsing around Cook Inlet.) Some would say you have to be full of grit to stay in Alaska. We would say we have to be full of it to have survived the past 18 months while looking at a murky future.

What does grit mean to you? Have you had to dig to your depths to find some lately, or have you been cultivating it for a while? Do you think grit is especially present in Alaskans?
