While people were lying on then District Attorney & Attorney General Kamala Harris' record for arresting Black men for ma*****na Being a NYer who had been stopped numerous times for nothing, I went to take a snapshot of the arrests in the entire state of California (approx. 39 million) vs New York City (approx. 8.5 million)

In NYC we had a total of 400,000 people arrested and jailed for simple ma*****na possession between 1997 - 2006
Whereas arrests in California over that period barely broke 5K and those arrested on simple possession were practically zero.

It is clear that SFPD, like NYPD disproportionately arrested Black & Brown people for ma*****na before local legalization. The amount of arrests in NYC or Washington DC which are cities with a fraction of California's population in comparison is mind blowing.

Also, while we are discussing this issue, let's point out that it was Republican Governors that put in three strike laws that have exacerbated the mass incarceration of millions of Black & Brown bodies, not Democratic lawmakers, or the passing of the crime bill.

White people live under the same crime bill, they use ma*****na and other controlled substances at higher rates but are comparatively a blip in the correctional system.
THAT IS SYSTEMIC RACISM, and that started long before we had a crime bill in answer to the crack epidemic.

The simple and plain truth on this matter is, that in California you only did jail time for ma*****na if it was a part of a more serious crime. Her office did not jail people over simple ma*****na possession, whereas in NYC we were jailed by the 100,000,s and eventually millions during the tenures on Rudy Giuliani & Michael Bloomberg.

So stop saying that VP Harris jailed Black men for ma*****na. If you r***d someone and had ma*****na when caught, they added the charge.
Her conviction rate was high for s*x crimes, trafficking and other more serious offenses, that is what is called being good at her "Black Job".
