Superhero/ Let's Do It Again Time! I'm a big fan of tunes about superheroes, Superman and Batman topping the list. I'm heading for the midwest today and am glad to know that next year's Superman movie is being filmed in Cleveland and Cincinnati. My thing about Supe is the fact that his creators Joe Schuster and Jerry Siegal were Cleveland teenagers. Schuster ended up with a delightfully dark and dodgy history of doodling (!) fe**sh strips (!), an endearing preoccupation to pulp hounds and all appreciators of basement lairs with dangling lightbulbs. Crushed to hear of the passing of the great Jerry Miller. Moby Grape aside, he was the great cross pollinator of the NW and. the SW sounds. This fan shot was either at an MG reunion at Wetlands in NYC or at his place in Tacoma where I grilled him endlessly about his days with Bobby Fuller, when he lived at the Fuller home and played in the pre-Four Fanatics. He is one of the giants in our world, and wew have still to unleash his unreleased 1966 Frantics album costarring Don Stevenson and Bob Mosley. .

EXTRA EXTRA! Hard Sell Part One! Hope youse pick up the new book - going for the hard sell now to help fund the next two books in the pipeline, John Mendelssohn's hilarious and wonderful My Day With David Bowie 1971 (which starts a series of small --but tall-- books by our favorite music scribblers) and my own tardy teen tantrum tome, still possibly called Kicksville '76. And the "new" Kicks is still underway, I'm getting flogged daily to get a move on! Getting the cabbage to print is always the biggest hurdle so again, pushing cool vintage stuff and exceptional bargains here to effect the dream. HOODLUM FRIENDS DEPT. Halbstark Baby-Baby Halbstark is being published for one reason only. Igel Ehrlich, leader of an early gang out of Basel, Switzerland, turned up with a scrapbook of snapshots from his gang days. Igel's wish was to identify and celebrate the gangs and gang members, as their stories were rapidly fading into the gloam. Many of the faces in this book you may remember from Weinberger's unnamed portraits; now those personages have names and identities within their gangs via Igel's rowdy amateur snapshots. It's our privilege to deliver this book to Igel and to all kulture vultures who clock in to preserve and celebrate teenage rebellion around the world. It started for us here with Bad Seed magazine in 1984, focused on juvenile delinquency in the US. We're glad to be able to present this unknown realm of Swiss gangs to you now. Grateful to Lukas, Rolf, the KHW Foundation, Oliver, Marc, Elizabeth, Johnny and Matt, without whom this would have been difficult, and to Igel, without whom this would have been impossible.

MY OBSESSION DEPT. Hey kids, once upon a time, we let 67 bands loose on 67 covers of pre-'67 Rolling Stones tunes...and released them on 45 RPM!
