I'm on the train home, after spending a wonderful few days in Liverpool. I had the pleasure of being a part of last night's Christmas Improv Palaver, organised by Liverpool Comedy Improv.

It was great to see performances by The Oickers - Improv Comedy Troupe and Soup (many of whom were performing for the first time!). I got to be part of the mixer team and play as one half of Moses & Bird.

Emma Bird and I performed a set telling the story of a grandad, a grandson and a mansion full of ghosts (who turned out to be ex-lovers of the grandad). Before the show we asked for written suggestion from the audience in the form of habits or characteristics of friends or family members that they liked. We used these suggestions (pictured) as inspiration throughout our set.

We hadn't tried this format before and I hadn't expected people to write such heartfelt messages. It was important that we honoured the things they'd shared with us. I think we did this successfully and this emotional core of the show make the times we mucked about as ghosts even funnier. I'll miss being Vera and Martha (who definitely aren't the same person), Colin (a friendly policeman from Piccadilly Circus) and Dave ("he likes it in the cellar").
