We cannot resist calling our October edition of Moss Piglet, "A Whale of an Issue." We're hoping you set out on your personal Pequod to hunt for the perfect poem, story, essay, or piece of visual art that you would then submit to us. Our theme is "Moby Dick." You've probably heard of it. On the surface, it's about a nutty old sea captain who is seeking to find and kill a white s***m whale. Oh, but the book is so much more than that. Even if you haven't read the novel, you can still contribute your visions of the world's oceans, its marine life, and the South Seas (home to cannibal/harpoonist Queequeg). You can find an image or a poem just by looking at one page of the book; it's language is so very rich. Send your submissions to us at [email protected] by Wednesday, September 4th.

They say time flies when you’re having fun and slows down when you worry. Pondering on this, I have a theory. What if time is nonexistent and the saying is actually relative to how you actually feel and the frequency that emotions resides on? To my understanding (and beliefs), emotions are energies in motions. Feelings flowing through the mind, body and spirit....

Should I stay or should I go Tell me please I need to know Your harsh truth has brought me to my knees Would you be so kind to set me free But if you’d rather have me stay There’s a few things we have to convey I’m not trying to change your ways Healing our bond will make my day However if our love has gone to astray I’ll just continue on my way

I asked God for a sign, a sign to inform me if my prayers were being heard. I felt like I had a lot going on but no creativity. Aside from my daily routine of waking up, praying, affirming myself, working, building healthy relationships with family and friends. I’ve been showing up to be present for my community. Showing up to practice my craft....

Summer, the season when the earth smells good. Beaming rays from the sun makes my skin tan and warm. Sunkissed for the backyard BBQ birthday celebration. Gathering with family and friends, laughing, exchanging stories, and dancing into the night. Deep breaths as I pause and take a moment to look up in the sky and see a beautiful cluster of stars shining down reminding us to make a wish....

“Know the unknown, hear the unheard, see the unseen.” -Author unknown An affirmation to stay in alignment with The Divine Holy Spirit Of The Most High God, YAH. My very first essay entry was for the D.A.R.E program. A program that was introduced into the schools to inspire the youth to refrain from drug use and violence. I was in the 5th grade attending North Park Elementary School in Racine, WI. Even though I was a child, I felt like it was my area of expertise since I had hands on experience of being exposed to drug use, violence, gang activity, partying… all of the things that comes with that lifestyle....

I dreamt that I was walking down the halls of an unfamiliar school. The school may have been unfamiliar but the way that I carried myself in my pupil days was not. About the Krazines
The Krazines (formerly the Kenosha/Racine Area Zine Makers) are an art-making, creative writing, and zine publishing group, whose membership is open to anyone who wishes to take part from Kenosha, Racine, or anywhere else in the world.
The Krazines were founded in 2016 as a part of Left of the Lake, LLC. Their first event took place in February 2016 at Public Craft Brewery in downtown Kenosha, WI when several celebrated zinesters entertained and educated at this social place. In the following month (and ever since), artists and authors of all ages and abilities have produced pages to be published in our full-color, professionally-printed zine.
Copies are provided to contributors and sold to subscribers, as well as limited amount of copies are for sale to the general public.
In non-COVID times between 2016 and early 2020, The Krazines hosted monthly Art Jams on first Saturdays at galleries, shops, museums, coffee houses, and private residences in the Kenosha and Racine area. They hope to return to greeting you at Art Jams at some time in 2021.
Krazines continues to publish its monthly zine. In 2016, the zine was a 16-page, black-and-white, saddle-stiched (stapled) publication. Today, it’s a 48 page, full-color, perfect bound, professionally printed edition, which would look great on your bookshelf or coffee table. Each month’s issue is tied to a particular theme. Submissions of visual art, comics, prose and poetry are always welcome. Send to info@krazines or request a copy of our submission guidelines.
In 2019, the Krazines began organizing urban/nature sketching adventures and Art Jaunts to other cities, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Cultural Center. Krazines also hosted Krazines Fest at RAM’s Wustum Museum of Fine Arts in November 2019 and co-hosted the tribute concert, From Natchez to Kenosha: A Tribute to Tom Waits, at Fusion in Kenosha in December 2019. They hope to resume their events at some time in 2021.
Krazines wishes to thank its contributors, host sites and subscribers for their support, and share special thanks to Samira Gdisis of the Black-Eyed Press and Melanie Becker Hovey.
Learn more by visiting our website at www.krazines.com, or visit our Instagram page or Tumblr blog. You are also invited to join our Facebook group to share your own arts and writing work and news.
Subscriptions of our zine are available through our website.
