Μονή του Προφήτη Ηλία, Ύδρα.

Κατά την Επανάσταση του 1821 λειτούργησε ως φυλακή και έμεινε σε αυτή για ένα διάστημα φυλακισμένος ο Κολοκοτρώνης.
Χτίστηκε το 1815 από αγιορείτες μοναχούς.
Το καθολικό της Μονής είναι βασιλική με τρούλο, περιβάλλεται από κελιά ή βοηθητικά κτίσματα και διαθέτει αξιόλογη βιβλιοθήκη.

Prophet Elias Monastery, Hydra island

Founded in 1813 by the "Kollivades" Fathers in the place of a monodrion, of the Virgin Mary of Phaneromeni Hydra.

The katholikon of the Monastery is a simple basilica with a dome, according to the Mount Athos temple, surrounded by cells or auxiliary buildings, and was inaugurated in 1815 on the day of the Virgin Mary's Eve.

The monastery has a rich library, organized in 1870 by the then abbot Ierotheos Kostopoulos, while in the courtyard of the Monastery of Prophet Elias there is a cistern with drinking water, threshing floors and stables.

During the Revolution of 1821 the Monastery operated as a prison and Kolokotronis and other chieftains remained in it for a while.

Designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, is the third largest church in the world (after St. Peter's in Rome and St. Paul's in London) and was the largest church in Europe when it was completed in the 15th century.
It is 153 metres long, 90 metres wide at the crossing and 90 metres high from the floor to the bottom of the lantern.
The third and last cathedral of Florence, it was dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore, the Virgin of the Flower, in 1412, a clear allusion to the lily, the symbol of the city of Florence.
