Fan of History is a podcast about History. Listen here:
https://podfollow.com/958058555
https://play.acast.com/s/history And I'm still learning so much!
Fan of History is not just for ancient history buffs - although if you are one you will love it! We have laughter, adventure, Swedish and Scranton accents, romance, and sometimes there's even NUDITY! DAN: I am a fan of history, studying history because I love it. I am not a historian and I do not have any formal education. I do this show for other fans of history, so that we can learn together. If
you find something that you do not think is correct, please give me your sources so we can both learn more. My most important source is Cambridge Ancient History but I also follow discussions on historum or any other sources I can find. I spend about six hours researching one single episode (not a decade) of the show. BERNIE: I am also a fan of history and I was a fan of Fan of History and I am fortunate to have jumped in with Dan as a co-host starting with the 680s BCE episodes. I have a history degree from Penn State University (1991). An undergraduate history degree mostly teaches you HOW to research which has been extremely valuable to me for this podcast. I spend a lot of time researching each decade and episode but every minute flies by because I love it so much. I appreciate all the listeners who make this possible for me. Please reach out to me with questions, ideas, and/or feedback. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Unlock the secrets of Plato’s final legacy… the real story of the Atlantis myth.
Jack Kelley is a film maker, classicist, and seeker of the truth. It looks like he found it! Jack tells Bernie about the just released documentary "The Atlantis Puzzle"... how it came to be and how his serendipitous reading on a vacation to Greece led to this amazing revelation.
I was fascinated by our conversation and even more so by the documentary!

The Caral-Supe civilization developed independently in Peru 5,000 years ago. It may be unique because some claim that marine resources, rather than agriculture, led to its development.

Officially, the “age of colonization" ends in 550 BC. There were a few random colonies founded after this time but not many and nothing really important, So (sadly?) we probably won’t have new colonies going forward.
Its like if you were playing a video game the colonization phase is over and now its GAME ON!

Now in the 540's BCE it's getting harder to break apart the regions of the world because they are getting more and more connected. But in this episode we can still just talk about Greece and two of its most important and well known cities: Athens and Sparta.
In Athens will the third time be a charm? The "tyrant" Pisistratus comes back with mercenaries and invites his enemies for a nice breakfast. Let's see how that turns out!
While in Sparta we have the Battle of the 300 Champions. There's going to be some serious PTSD going on here!
We will also learn about legendary wrestler Milo of Crotone and his unreal feats of strength, the Olympics, and all the usual banter and insights you get from Fan of History!
