All Saints is a record label founded in 1991, releasing music from Brian Eno, Harold Budd, John Cale, Djivan Gasparyan, Roger Eno and Laraaji, amongst others. All Saints continued to build upon those initial releases with new acts as well as with artists already associated with the label. The label is currently reissuing various titles from their back catalogue, as well as selected new releases by

the likes of Dallas Acid and Chuck Johnson. For any synch licensing enquiries, please contact [email protected]

In case you missed it, the brilliant 1986 collaboration between Harold Budd and Cocteau Twins, The Moon and the Melodies, has recently been reissued by 4AD.

The related album The White Arcades, a 1988 Harold Budd solo album with production from Robin Guthrie and Brian Eno, is also still available as a gatefold vinyl reissue on All Saints, with a liner note interview between Harold and fellow composer Carl Stone.

We miss Harold greatly but it's nice to see his music being continually discovered by a new generation of fans.

Harold Budd on The White Arcades (1988)

“The only album I did as an ex-pat, living in London and commuting to Edinburgh. It took me six months. I mixed part of one track at Brian Eno’s studio and another at the Cocteau Twins’ studio in White City. But it was essentially a solo work, I loved doing it. It made a difference that I created it in the UK, although it’s hard to quantify how.

Great pubs up in Edinburgh. The people were great too. I remember Robin Guthrie giving me valuable advice:

‘You’ve got to learn two things. Firstly, how do you pronounce Edinburgh?’

‘Edinboro.’

‘No. It’s Edinbr-a.’

‘Right, ok.’

‘OK, when you go to a pub, what do you order?’

‘A pint of bitter.’

‘No. You order a pint of heavy.’

I thought, right – thanks. Then I fitted right in. I even went to the bank and changed my cash to Scottish paper money.”

Only just come across this lovely piece about Harold Budd's album The White Arcades, written by Marty Willson-Piper (The Church / All About Eve).

"There was a time when every night as I fell asleep, I listened to The White Arcades, Harold Budd’s startling soundtrack of reverberating angels."

Clear vinyl gatefold repress out now.

There was a time when every night as I fell asleep, I listened to The White Arcades, Harold Budd’s startling soundtrack of reverberating angels. It is so ingrained in my consciousness that when I open my mouth the music softly plays. Although it is considered Ambient music, Budd himself dislikes t...

Before Carlos Niño co-produced the new Andre 3000 record, he performed the same role for a beautiful trilogy of Laraaji albums that we were fortunate enough to release on All Saints - Bring On The Sun, Sun Gong, and Sun Transformations. Bask in the rays:

“Even if you aren’t watching the show, Music From Burden of Proof works just fine on its own, with Chuck often finding the haunting middle ground between Terry Riley and Angelo Badalamenti, mixing in some gorgeous string arrangements and lonesome pedal steel. Subtle at times, deeply dramatic at others.” Aquarium Drunkard

“Something that has really stuck with me was her idea that at any given time you are in the midst of a composition, you just have to stop and listen to it. It’s like a way to radically accept what is happening in the moment, but with a focus on sound. So that has much broader applications than a musical practice, but it is also very useful to me as a composer.”

Chuck Johnson spoke to Aquarium Drunkard last week about the influence of Pauline Oliveros, the process of collaborating with Cynthia Hill on TV projects, and the nostalgia inherent in scoring work set in his native North Carolina.

In case you missed it, yesterday we previewed Shadows On The Green, a new EP from Chuck Johnson containing 7 further cues composed for Burden Of Proof (which receives it’s first UK broadcast on Sky documentaries tomorrow). Each of the pieces on this EP are beautifully constructed tracks that work as well divorced from the associated imagery as they do serving a role in the docuseries. To celebrate the release we’re also offering 30% off the silver vinyl edition of the Music From Burden Of Proof LP using the code shadows. Head over to our Bandcamp for both releases, discount offer valid until Sunday night.

Whether composing for film or creating records of windswept, spectral pedal steel, Chuck Johnson imbues his music with a sense of mystery and dynamic tension. His latest album is Music From Burden of Truth, a soundtrack to Cynthia Hill's HBO docu-series exploring Stephen Pandos' investigation into t...

Chuck Johnson - Shadows On The Green

A companion volume to Music From Burden Of Proof, the soundtrack to the critically acclaimed HBO docuseries, directed by Cynthia Hill. Available today as an upfront exclusive from Chuck's Bandcamp:

https://chuckjohnson.bandcamp.com/album/shadows-on-the-green

"The initial 'Music From Burden of Proof' album was conceived and set into motion before a broadcast date for the HBO series had been finalized. And, consistent with the way the series evolved over the years, there were last minute changes to the story and to the final edit of the show that resulted in some new music being added. The most notable example of this is the “Closing” cue. Because the case was still open and new developments were still happening very close to our broadcast deadlines. we were unsure of what the final emotional note of the series would be until the very last minute. In the final version, the story ends on a mildly hopeful note."

To celebrate the release of Shadows On The Green, we're also offering a 30% discount on the silver vinyl edition of Music From Burden Of Proof - just enter the code shadows at checkout on Bandcamp. Valid until the end of the weekend.

The Shadows On The Green EP will be available on all streaming services on 21 November.

The docuseries for which the music was commissioned, Burden Of Proof, has continued to pick up critical acclaim, including a nomination for 'Best True Crime Documentary' at the forthcoming Critic's Choice Awards. It will be broadcast in the UK for the first time this Sunday 5th November via Sky Documentaries, and available on catch-up afterwards.

It's perhaps a bit late in the year for a summer mix, but think of this as something to mark the end of the season. It's also still worringly warm in London for October. Chuck Johnson has compiled this selection of tracks for The Voice of Cassandre Mixtape, click on the link below to have a listen.

Music From Burden Of Proof is out now on LP and digital. There is also more music from Chuck Johnson on All Saints coming very soon.

Chuck Johnson is a California-based composer, producer, and musician. He approaches his work with an ear towards finding faults and instabilities that might reveal latent beauty, with a focus on pedal steel guitar, experimental electronics, alternate tuning systems, and composing for film and televi...
