Today (Nov. 18) is High Five a Librarian Day! Pictured: Josephine Heydrick (1873-19) served as Pequot Library's first librarian from 1894 to 1917. The library opened to the public in April 1894. Josephine was hired in June of 1894 at a salary of $50.00 per month. She received her degree from the Pratt Institute of Library Science.

Josephine, seen here presumably around the time she began her library career, wears a dress that would probably be used for special occasions or for sitting for a portrait as is shown here. Her hair is sensibly coifed, suggesting a level of formality in her behavior.

Along with the regular duties of librarianship, Josephine maintained a busy correspondence with book dealers of the day in which she described sought-after volumes to complete a series or enquired for a particular title on behalf of a patron.

We featured Josephine in our 2022 exhibition [Her]story: Women's Roles Through History. Click here to read more: https://buff.ly/3QWW6IR.

Just in time for Thanksgiving, our first order of caviar has arrived. We source this from our friends , who work with a sustainable farm in The Netherlands. This caviar is packed on the farm with no repacking, which means no broken eggs. It's packed only with pure salt and no preserving agents. The trout roe is from Spain and is lightly cured and salted from Rainbow Trout. We have blini and VT créme fraiche too! Available in our Fairfield location only.
