California is home to some of the world's most renowned wine regions, including Napa Valley, Sonoma, and Lodi, making it a top global wine producer. However, the state’s wine industry is facing a significant slowdown in sales. Wineries are filled with unsold inventory and grape growers are struggling to find buyers for their grapes, even at steep discounts.

"Some of our older growers that have been farming 60 to 70 years, in some cases, say this is the worst they’ve ever seen. Last year, an estimated 400,000 tons of grapes were left on the vine in 2023 because they couldn’t sell them. It was never harvested," says Stuart Spencer, executive director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission.

Join us as we look into the world of wineries in California, what's behind this slowdown and downturn in the state's wine industry, and how it's impacting everyone from farmers to winemakers. Siyamak sits down with Spencer; Patrick Cappiello, winemaker at Monte Rio Cellars in Sonoma County; and Craig Ledbetter, vice president of Vino Farms.

This is my favorite wine right now. A STUNNING white from Spain that retails for only $14.

Lush notes of meter lemon, Bosch pears squeezed out over pea gravel. The gorgeous combination of minerality, acid and fruit are sublime. It even has hints of balanced salinity.

Lush on the palate, round flavors with ripping across to cleanse your palate.

I hate the fake 100 point scale but if I was forced to rate it, it's an easy 96 points. Especially when you factor in its price.

Chile’s winemakers can finally put their feet up, after one of the latest harvests in more than a decade, but one of the most promising for quality. It was also exceptionally long — spanning over four months. Amanda Barnes reports.

You may have noticed recently that when you go to a restaurant, the bill is more expensive. The appetizers are a few bucks more and so are the entrees, and that glass of wine definitely used to be cheaper. But why? Why are things more expensive when you go out to eat? Sure, everyone knows about inflation, everyone knows that the price of goods has gone up. But that’s not what’s killing restaurants right now.

It's not inflation or the price of goods increasing that have made restaurants more expensive, its labor costs. Here's what you should know.
