Following in the footsteps of his father, Dr. Blackwell earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tuskegee University and a Master of Public Health from Loma Linda University. He has held prestigious roles, including Chief Veterinary Officer of the U.S. Public Health Service, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Tennessee, and Chief Veterinary Officer for the Humane Society of the United States. His leadership has been recognized with numerous awards, including the U.S. Public Health Service Distinguished Service Medal.

Today, as Director of the Program for Pet Health Equity (PPHE) at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Blackwell is transforming access to care through AlignCare® , the first One Health healthcare system.
