Americana Highways yesterday premiered the video for Steven Gellman’s new song, “The Road to Hana.” Editor Melissa Clarke wrote: “Inspired by a dream trip to Hawaii, this song is quite wonderful, and sounds like an instant traditional song, somehow, with local lore and imagery built in. The ukulele and ocarina are lovely and timeless and the hula dancer embodies the tune’s fluidity.”

On the eve of Halloween, Steve Madewell released an official video for “Haunted,” the title track of his fourth album. The album opens with a murder ballad, “Haunted.” A tragic story, set in a different time. The manifestation of a poor choice, full of regret and loss, with dire consequences of the most profound and horrible kind. A haunting on multiple levels. The song begs the question: Is this a personal metaphor, or just a fabrication? Modal scales, with engaging harmonies, and accentuating hand drums. A haunting on multiple levels.

"Jim Patton sings as if he were Willie Nelson himself with a voice of the coarser caliber, but with Sherry Brokus' bright background voice, it becomes an arrangement that is constantly growing and contagious.

"Some of the more appealing tracks are 'Lottery', the title song 'Harbortown' and 'Sally Brown', the latter a song that is both beautiful and catchy.

"Musically, it is harmony through and through and the music breathes soft country in a suitable combination with that typical American folk music.... a pleasant new acquaintance and music that can undoubtedly brighten the autumn darkness."
