We are incredibly excited to be able to release preorders for this special collection remastered and restored recordings from some of Kenya's greatest players.

"During the 1970s, nyatiti music moved from its traditional home in the countryside into urban Nairobi, and its exciting sounds experienced an unexpected resurgence during Kenya’s vinyl boom. We have compiled some of the best of the best of nyatiti music singles from the period into a special and unique collection. These sounds are being made available for the first time ever outside of .

Nyatiti music’s infectious and hypnotic sounds are unforgettable. The driving beat of the nyatiti rings of far off styles of Western dance and techno music. Nyatiti players show up at weddings, funerals and drinking halls and sing songs in tribute. They would regularly appear in bars in Nairobi’s City Centre during the 1970s, when people had moved to the city en masse from the countryside and were hungry to the familiar and exciting sounds of the nyatiti. Players would sing racy tunes, filled with double entendres, describing well known scenes from the villages about sexual prowess, cheating partners, political tributes, cautionary tales and dangerous deals where the Devil gets his comeuppance. Nyatiti music can still be heard to this day all over Kenya, but these recordings represent the unique sound of the first half of the 20th century, and the last visages of the sounds that existed for millennia previous before the music would change to adapt to a changing world. Couple that with the nyatiti’s infectious rhythms and it is easy to see why so many people turned out to see these guys play.

The record features some of the best known nyatiti players in history, from Lucas Odote, a suited public servant working in Kenya’s independence government, to Ogwang Lelo, whose raspy voice is unforgettable to Amolo Kongo, one of nyatiti’s greatest performers and an early casualty in the AIDS crisis the decimated Kenya’s music scene."

Nyatiti, the 8 stringed lyre of Siaya, Kenya had a heyday for most of the 20th century. Fortunately some of its sounds were captured and we've been lucky enough to be able to reissue them.

We put out this amazing compilation of Nyatiti music in Kenya. A one of a kind compilation of one of Kenyas most important musical forms during it's vibrant heydey in the 1970s.

Ayany Jowi, "the Raging Buffalo", a fiddle and two dudes banging on metal and it sounds amazing.

Ayany was the most famous and influential player of orutu music, the precursor to the more famous guitar based benga sound familiar to fans of Kenyan and African music.

Jowi ("wild 🦬") produced an incredible amount of music during the 70s and 80s due to his incredible popularity at the time. This collection represents some of the best and most varied sounds of his career.

I spend a lot of time trying to promote other peoples' releases. As a label, that's your job. At the same time, I'm also have my own music.

Last year, I started working with synths. In March of last year, I couldn't tell you what an LFO or an envelope was. We learn by doing, so I did a tape that October called "Field Drift 1" (because that's what I do, drift through fields). Happily, I've done numerous shows since on two continents and now I have a follow up LP ready "Field Drift 2" (that features a guest appearance from Lars Panquin).

Limited 100 copies of electronic music experiments.

None of it has to make sense, but I'd be stoked if you checked it out. Even more stoked if you bought one to help keep this wild, nonsensical journey going.

Lest anyone forget about this great compilation of rare and restored recordings from Western Kenya. Link in bio yo.

The is the eight stringed lyre of the Luo people of Western Kenya. Players often performed seated and alone, showing up at weddings, funerals and drinking halls. They sang songs in tribute, in rememberance and for people to dance to. The unique sounds of the nyatiti can still be heard to this day all over Kenya, but these recordings represent the unique sound of the first half of the 20th century, and the last visages of the sounds that existed for millenia previous.

These recordings and the subsequent remastering process capture and bring new life to the rhythmic and trance like sound of the instrument.

A little while back, a guy named may or may not have called me up and said "hey, I have a record for you." And that part was true. What that guy didn't say was "hey Pete, I have an AMAZING record for you," which was a fact. It is also a fact that it is unlike any other record that the real Fred Thomas would had done before (because it isn't Fred Thomas, we are also confused.)

ECOATM is a full sample project using only a 404, and will no doubt blow your mind. It blew our minds. So we put it out. And now the limited vinyl (100 copies) is up for pre-order and you should all pick it up on this BC Friday.

It is also the first release (and one of THREE) on our new Great Corner Sound label, an imprint focusing on electronic and experimental music.
