While I still have tons of photos from Nepal to go through, the next part of my trip brought me to Uzbekistan. Have you been?

This less-visited country is not only stunning, but it’s full of some of the kindest people. Here’s an intro to Samarkand and its beautiful sights.

Swoyambhu Mahachaitya in Kathmandu, Nepal, better known as Monkey Temple by tourists due to its friendly residents.

While there are many amazing temples to visit in Kathmandu, this remains my favorite. Having first visited in 2016, I made sure to go back… this time with my zoom lens.

Throughout the giant temple complex, you’ll find monkeys playing, souvenir stands selling, locals praying, kids begging, and everything in between. It’s practically chaos… but also oh so beautiful.

As you can tell, the monkeys are my favorite. For fun, you can also explain to locals that there are no wild monkeys where you’re from - only in zoos. It’s a crazy concept to them. Their monkeys = our squirrels.

Details to Visit
Entrance: 200 NPR
Taxi from Thamel: 330 NPR - also able to walk the 1.5 - 2 miles if taxis won’t negotiate
Currently exchange rate: $1 (USD) = 134 Nepal rupees (NPR)

In 2016, I spent 12 days hiking to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal. It was an incredible experience with jaw dropping scenery, friendly Sherpa villages, and a true test of mental and physical fitness.

Now, I'm gearing up to return to Nepal to do more trekking in the Annapurna region. I'm just hoping this isn't like when I run a half marathon and then 6 months later think "it wasn't that bad". 😂

Duck is one of the most beautiful towns in the Outer Banks. It’s only half a mile wide from the ocean to the sound with a 3/4 mile boardwalk filled with locally owned shops, restaurants, and bars.

Who’s been to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead???

Or should I ask a better question…. Who was smart enough to go there when it wasn’t the middle of summer and over 100 degrees?!

It was very cool… despite the hot weather! Quite an engineering feat.

Did you know it contains 4.4 million cubic yards of concrete, which is enough to build a two-lane road from Seattle to Miami or a sidewalk around the equator that’s four feet wide?

If you’re a scuba diver, one of the coolest types of trips to take is a liveaboard. You live on a boat with a few other divers and dive 3-5 times per day enjoying picturesque sunsets and sunrises daily. If you’re lucky, you’ll also visit remote islands.

This picture is from a week long scuba liveaboard in the Exumas in the Bahamas. 100% recommend. The water is beautiful, the islands have sugar white sand, and the marine life is excellent!

Any idea which European Castle this is?

While rarely seen from this angle, this is the front of one of the most recognizable castles in the world: Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany.

I was shocked the first time I went as all I’d ever seen were the fairy tale pictures from above of the full castle nestled into the mountains.

One of the most famous sights in Rome: the Trevi Fountain.

What you can’t see is the hundreds of people crowded around it…

Still, it’s worth a stop to admire the fountain, take a picture, and toss a coin.

Why you might ask?

Well, according to legend, throwing a coin into the fountain with your right hand over your left shoulder will ensure your return to Rome… so I’d say it’s worth shooting your shot.

After all, it worked for me! First trip 2000. Revisited 2023. (Am I getting old?!)

And of course honorable mention to:

One of the most iconic sites in the United States - the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, CA. It never gets old.

Highly recommend visiting at least one of the Golden Gate viewpoints in the city. They each offer slightly different views.

Have you ever been to Isle of Skye in Scotland? It’s one of those places I heard so many amazing things about before I went, I was afraid I’d be disappointed… turns out, it was just as spectacular as I’d been told. 😍
