/ Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Jr. to take on Undefeated prospect Abdullah Mason

This Saturday exclusively streamed live on ESPN+ from Quebec City

QUINCY, Mass. (August 12, 2024) – Former New England Welterweight Champion Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Jr. (19-2, 9 KOs) has stepped up once again, accepting an offer to fight undefeated, highly-touted prospect Abdullah Mason (14-0, 12 KOs), this Saturday night (Aug. 17) on a Top Rank card at Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada.

Ohan, Jr. meets Mason in an eight-round bout at a 137-pound catchweight on a Top Rank and Eye of the Tiger event headlined by Christian Mbilli vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Ohan Jr. vs. Mason will be exclusively streamed live on ESPN+ starting at 8 p.m. ET.

“Mike is and has always been willing to step up when called upon to take the big fights on the big

stage,” Ohan, Jr.’s promoter Chris Traietti (Granite Chin Promotions) said. “This fight with Mason further proves that. Mike is always in the gym so when we got the call to take this fight on three weeks’ notice, it was no issue. He is a real professional both in and out of the gym, and this Saturday the boxing world is going to witness an upset.”

Fighting out of Holbrook, Massachusetts, the 30-year-old Ohan, Jr. is the son of a retired boxer, Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Sr., who was a regular sparring partner for Hall of Famer Marvelous Marvin Hagler during the 1980s.

Ohan, Jr. last fought a year ago, winning an eight-round unanimous decision over Harry Gigliotti (9-4).

A slick southpaw with pop, the 20-year-old Mason was a celebrated amateur boxer from Cleveland. His promoter, Top Rank, has him on the fast track in the pro ranks as this is his fourth fight of 2024, the most recent a third-round technical knockout of 20-5-1 Luis Lebron this past July 6th.

“”I’m very seasoned and ready to show Top Rank what I’m all about,” Ohan, Jr. commented. “Don’t blink!”

CES Boxing Presents Live Championship Boxing on September 7

MASHANTUCKET, CT – CES returns to "The Wonder of It All," Foxwoods Resort Casino on Saturday, September 7 with a scintillating card featuring 2 championship bouts and several of New England’s top prospects in competitive match ups.

Tickets for Live Championship Boxing will be available on Friday, August 16 at CESFights.com and Ticketmaster. Doors open at 6pm, with the first bout at 7pm. The card will be televised free of charge on SwerveTV.

Newly minted WBC US Silver Lightweight Champion Alejandro "El Abusador" Paulino (17-0, 13 KOs) will defend his title for the first time in the main event.

Fighting out of New London, CT, Paulino returns to his home state after a successful season with the Boston Butchers, where he helped lead the team into the semi-finals in their first year with 14 wins and 6 knockdowns.

The co-main event features a classic turf war between New England Super Featherweight Champion "King" Kevin Walsh (13-0, 6 KOs) and power puncher Irvin Gonzalez (16-4, 12 KOs).

Walsh has been on a tear over the past year. The Brockton, MA fighter won the New England Super Featherweight title in January 2023 and added the vacant New England Lightweight title this past March. In Gonzalez, he’ll face an experienced foe who has battled the likes of Edward Vazquez, Elijah Pierce and Toka Khan-Clary.

Supporting the twin title bouts are 6 high caliber matchups featuring many of the best fighters in New England.

Francis Hogan (16-0, 14 KOs) will look to keep his undefeated record intact when he takes on veteran Elvin Ayala (29-13-1, 13 KOs) in a middleweight bout. The colorful "Frank the Tank," of Weymouth, MA, will be in his toughest test to date against Ayala, a New Haven native who has shared the ring with former world champions Arthur Abraham and David Lemieux as well as current IBF jr. middleweight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev.

Unbeaten lightweights collide when Bridgeport, CT’s Jacob "Lefty" Marrero (6-0, 5 KOs) meets Providence, RI native Elijah Peixoto (4-0, 2 KOs). In an all-Connecticut slugfest, Waterbury’s Mike "The Savage" Kimbel (6-0, 4 KOs) battles New Britain’s Anthony Mora (4-2-1, 3 KOs) in a welterweight matchup. Stamford, CT based Pole Slawomir Bohdziewicz puts his undefeated record on the line against Tennessee’s Kevin Torian (3-1, 3 KOs) in a cruiserweight contest. 18-year-old phenom Joseph Chisholm (1-0, 1 KO), of Stamford, CT, will welcome New Bedford, MA’s Roberto Colon into the pro ranks in a 4 round super bantamweight bout. A third Stamford-based boxer will be in action as Douglas Marroquin (2-0, 2 KOs) opens the show against Michigan’s Katriel Young (0-2).

Josniel Castro captures WBC U.S. Silver Super Welterweight title

“Punch-Out at Polar Park 2” OFFICIAL RESULTS

The Champ Is Here! Josniel Castro

WORCESTER, Mass. (August 11, 2024) – Two fighters from Florida shined under the stars last night in most beautiful ballpark in the nation, Shearns Boxing Promotions (SBP) in conjunction with Kendrick Ball’s Camp Get Right Boxing presented “Punch-Out at Polar Park II”, at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts.

A mix of cagey veterans and promising local talent entertained the crowd, recording numerous knockdowns and knockouts on a perfect night weather-wise. The event was originally scheduled for Friday night, but inclement weather reports led to a one-night postponement.

“Kendrick and I were extremely pleased with the event,” promoter Chuck Shearns said. “It was a beautiful night, and the crowd enjoyed it. We are happy for Josniel Castro capturing his first title belt.”

The main event turned out to be eight rounds of action in a highly competitive fight as Josniel “TG” Castro (13-1, 8 KOs) decisioned (79-73, 78-74 X 2) Jerry “Silent Assassin” Bradford (9-3, 5 KOs) to capture the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) U.S. Silver Super Welterweight Championship.

Fighting out of Boca Raton (FL) but with strong ties to New England, Castro showed maturity in the ring as he controlled the fight, throwing and landing the more effective punches, using his lead to set up crisp combinations. It was a storybook performance from Castro, who overcame homelessness to secure his first title belt as a prizefighter.

“This (title belt) means everything to me,” Castro commented after his fight. “This is the next step on the road to a world title. I’ve progressed a lot by listening to my coaches. I’m more relaxed now instead of just trying to please the crowd.

“Now, I’m going to get ready for my next fight. I’m not targeting any particular fighter. I just want to work my way up the rankings in whatever way it takes starting with my next fight.”

In the co-featured event, the comeback of former two-division world champion Maureen “The Real Million Dollar Baby” Shea (31-2-1, 13 KOs) couldn’t have gone better for the Irish Mexican fighter from the Bronx, who now resides in Delray Beach, Florida. Shea showed little if any rust, out-boxing and outclassing Beata Dudek (4-3, 4 KOs) to capture an eight-round unanimous decision, in which Shea won every round. She extended her unbeaten streak to 19 (18 wins, 1 draw) dating back to 2010.

Fighting for only the sixth time in the last seven years, Shea used her experience, talent and conditioning to sweep all eight rounds. “I never feel rust,” Shea remarked. “I don’t believe in ring rust because of the way I train and what I’ve learned. I’ve had to learn things after all these years. I live a good life and enjoy doing this.

“My goal is to get the titles that are rightfully mine. I’m 43 but women get better with age. I weighed 122 pounds for my pro debut (in 2005) and at 43 I weighed in at 119 for this fight. I know and understand my body.”

Promising southpaw Justin “The Bandit” Laporte, a junior middleweight from nearby Millbury (MA), turned in an electrifying pro debut, blasting out junior middleweight Tymar Miles (0-3) only 62-seconds into the opening round. Laporte connected with a perfectly thrown right-left combination, dropping Miles who managed to beat the count. Laporte threw two well placed left crosses that ended the night for Miles. The 24-year-old Laporte is a licensed realtor, studies at Nichols College, and a proud U.S. Marine.

Worcester junior middleweight Keno Luna (3-0, 2 KOs), a four-time New England Golden Gloves Champion, remained undefeated and went the distance for the first time as a professional, pitching a shutout (40-36 X 3) for a four-round unanimous decision against game Izaiah Vargas (1-11, 1 KO).

Scituate (MA) heavyweight Kevin “Big Gulp” Nagle (9-0, 7 KOs) kept his undefeated intact with a six-round unanimous decision over Mexican veteran Jose “Olympico” Humberto Corral (20-34 (12 KOs). Nagle, who won every round on one of the judges’ scorecards, five on the other two, went the full six rounds for his second fight in a row.

Two-time New England Golden Gloves Champion Jhon “D-Wave” Devers Rodriguez, of Worcester, won his pro debut in impressive fashion, knocking out Igor Santos (0-2) with an overhand fight, after an earlier knockdown from a similar punch, in the first round.

The most popular fighter on the card, Worcester welterweight “Grafton Hill’s Favorite Son” Docimo (1-0, 1 KO) had a memorable pro debut, knocking out Tracey Coppedge (0-4) midway through the opening round. A barrage of punches sent Coppedge to the canvas early in round one and a right hook closed the show at the 1:24 mark for a technical knockout.

In his first fight in 11 years, Connecticut heavyweight Joe Powers (2-2, 2 KOs) pounded Arquilla Prote’s (0-9) body, dropping him three times enroute to a second-round technical knockout victory.

In the opening bout of the evening, New York super middleweight Austin Cassee needed only 59-seconds to stop Erick Matheus Alves (0-5). Cassese decked Alves with the flurry of punches and moments later, he closed the show, throwing punches in punches against an overwhelmed Alves for a technical knockout win.

Steven “Tank” Tankanow was honored for his contributions to Worcester boxing. “Tank” was best known as the manager of multiple world champion Jose Antonio Rivera, of Worcester.

The Greg Hill Foundation received a portion of the proceeds to continue improving the lives of local families in need.

30/07/2024

WORCESTER, Mass. (July 29, 2024) – “Punch-out at Polar Park II,” presented by Shearns Boxing Promotions (SBP) in conjunction with Kendrick Ball’s Camp Get Right Boxing, will showcase a quartet of locally developed talent in a continuation of the city’s rich boxing history that dates back a century.

Worcester’s Harry Devine captured a bronze medal in the featherweight division at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, where General Douglas McArthur cheered him on from ringside. And Canadian-born Lou Brouillard moved to his adopted home of Worcester, and he became its first world champion boxer. Brouillard (100-32-1, 57 KOs) fought professionally between 1928 and 1940, reigning as the world welterweight champion from 1931 to 1932, adding the New York State Athletic Commission “World” Championship to his resume in 1933. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 1990.

Worcester’s second world champion is “El Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera (43-6-1, 25 KOs), whose long pro career went from 1992 to 2019. He was born in Philadelphia and moved to Worcester from Springfield when he was only 16. Rivera was the World Boxing Association (WBA) Junior Middleweight and Welterweight World Champion, as well as the International Boxing Organization (IBO) World Welterweight titleholder.

Gifted Worcester boxers through the years have included heavyweight Bobby Harris (1993-99), who was a four-time national amateur champion, highlighted by the National Golden Gloves Championship, followed nine years later by Dominican Republic-native Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (31-2, 20 KOs). Rodriguez was a world super middleweight contender who went the distance with Hall of Fame boxer Andre Ward in 2013.

And Worcester’s boxing tradition continues today, headlined by World Super Lightweight World title challenger Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz (17-2-1, 8 KOs), who is rated No. 9, No. 12 and No. 14 in the world, respectively, by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Council (WBC).

The future of Worcester boxing includes four boxers fighting on the “Punch-Out at Polar Park II” card, which will be streamed live from Worcester’s sensational Polar Park on www.bxngtv.com.

Three locally based boxers will be making their pro debuts: Millbury welterweight Justin Laporte, who fought last year on the amateur part of the card, vs. Tymar Miles (0-2), Worcester junior middleweight Jhon “D-Wave” Devers Rodriguez vs. Igor Santos (0-1) and Worcester welterweight “Grafton Hill’s Favorite Son” Daniel Docimo vs. Tracey Coppedge (0-3).

The 24-year-old Laporte, trained by another outstanding Worcester boxer, Sean Fitzgerald, is Worcester resident and licensed realtor who is a finance major student at Nichols College. The southpaw is a U.S. Marine fighting as a welterweight.

Devers Rodriguez, 23, is a native of the Dominican Republic and two-time New England Golden Gloves Champion as a novice. Like Laporte, he trains out of Camp Get Right Boxing in Worcester.

The most popular boxer to come out of Worcester in a long time is welterweight Dan Docimo, who is known as “Grafton Hill’s Favorite Son.” A locksmith for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the last 17 years, Docimo is another southpaw who will celebrate his 36th birthday the night of his pro debut.

The other Worcester fighter in action Aug. 9th is four-time New England Golden Gloves Champion Keno Luna (2-0, 2 KOs), who meets Izaiah Vargas (1-10) in a four-round bout. Luna has been active this summer as a member of the Boston Butchers team in The Combat League (TCL).

“A boxer making his or her pro debut is always exciting,” promoter Chuck Shearns said. “I’m happy these Worcester guys are able to do it in front of their family and friends at such a great event. The next generation of Worcester boxers starts now.”

The only returning “Punch-Out” fighter from last year’s pro card, promising Boca Raton (FL) prospect Josniel “TG” Castro (12-1, 8 KOs), is the headliner in the eight-round main event against Jerry Bradford (9-2, 5 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) U.S. Junior Middleweight title. Worcester is Castro’s second home.

Two-time, two-division world champion Maureen “The Real Million Dollar Baby” Shea (30-2-1, 13 KOs), fighting out Delray Beach (FL) by way of The Bronx (NY), takes on Slovakia-native Beata Dudek (4-2, 4 KOs), who fights out of Hungary, in the eight-round co-featured event.

Undefeated, fan favorite heavyweight Kevin “Big Gulp” Nagle (8-0, 7 KOs), a U.S. Army veteran from Scituate (MA), faces Mexican veteran Jose “Olympico” Humberto Corral (20-33, 12 KOs) in an eight-round match.

Also fighting on the undercard in four-round matches are Connecticut heavyweight Joe Powers (1-2, 1 KO) vs. pro-debuting Angolan Manuel Joao Balanga, and pro-debuting New York super middleweight Austin Cassese vs. Erick Matheus Alves (0-4).

Card subject to change.

Tickets are available for purchase at Polar Park’s box office (508.500.888) and online at www.polarpark.com/boxing, priced at: $205.00 (Field Level VIP) – located around home plate on the field level, access to an exclusive field level bar); $125.00 (VIP DCU Club) – located on the third floor, access to an exclusive indoor area with a bar); $105.00 (VIP Ticket) – located in the first four rows of section 6-11 – seats are padded and wider than the average seat; $75.00 (Home Plate Reserved – rows 5-11 with a great view of the ring; $55.00 (Reserved) – located down the first and third base lines; $165.00 (Family Four Pack) – four reserved tickets (call 508.500.8888).

Two-division world champion Maureen Shea returning to the ring Aug. 9th in Worcester, MA “Punch-Out at Polar Park II”

, Mass. (July 23, 2024) – Two-time, two-division world champion Maureen “The Real Million Dollar Baby” Shea (30-2-1, 13 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time in more than two years on the August 9th (Aug. 10 rain date) “Punch-Out at Polar Park II” card, presented by Shearns Boxing Promotions (SBP) in conjunction with Kendrick Ball’s Camp Get Right Boxing, at beautiful Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts.

A former World Boxing Council (WBC) Interim World Featherweight and International Female Boxing Association (IBF) World Bantamweight Champion, Shea faces Beata Dudek (4-2, 4 KOs), who fights out of Hungary by way of her native Slovakia. She competed in the 2022 IBA Women’s World Championships as an amateur.

The centerpiece of a revitalized City of Worcester, the state-of-the-art Polar Park will host the second installment of “Punch-Out at Polar Park” at the home of the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate Worcester Red Sox ( ).

All of the action will be streamed live on www.bxngtv.com.

The Greg Hill Foundation will receive a portion of the proceeds to continue improving the lives of local families in need. It has donated more than $20 Million to more than 9,000 different beneficiaries. Go to www.thegreghillfoundation.org for more information.

“Maureen is a friend, and we are very happy to have her fight on our show,” promoter Chuck Shearns commented. “When our fighter, Josniel Castro, relocated to Florida, Maureen was extremely gracious and helpful to us. That’s the kind of person she is.”

Shea, 43, has had a solid 17-year pro career. She’s riding an 18-fight unbeaten streak with 17 victories and one draw. The Mexican American fighter from the Bronx (NY), who now lives in Delray Beach (FL), trains and is a strength-and-conditioning coach at DS Boxing in Boca Raton, Florida.

“I’m better than ever,” Shea spoke about fighting at her age. “I have a balanced life, so why not fight? It’s not about proving myself. I have experience and I’m strong, I love this sport and I’m following the path. I’m going to give it a good run and hopefully I’ll get another world title fight. I’m at peace in my life. I’ve always stayed busy, and boxing has never left me. I started training again in 2022 and I wanted to see what would happen. It’s a challenge boxing in my forties, but there is a lot of BS. I’m doing this now for me. I started at 17 and women couldn’t fight in the amateurs. I got to No. 1 in the world. I learned a lot in the amateurs – I only had 11 fights -- of what not to do in the pros. I was misdiagnosed with bi-polar and was on a lot of medication, It’s the reason I moved to California. I have seasonal affect disorder. It rejuvenated my life and off of medications. And I have a platform and a voice for young women in boxing. I started to box again, but the lapses in years that I had were from deeply emotional struggles.

“I also want to prove that life in boxing isn’t over at 40 if you age gracefully and do not lose your spirit. I’m good and getting better. People come up to me and say I must have found the Foundation of Youth. I’ve been through so much boxing that nothing affects me. I’m adaptable.”

Shea has always been a huge New York Yankees fan, often wearing the famous pinstripes while boxing, although she probably won’t be doing so fighting in the Triple A home of the Boston Red Sox.

“I’ve always loved baseball,” she added. “Mo Vaughn (former Red Sox star) is a friend of mine. I do my strength training at his performance center in Boca Raton. And when I fought in Mexico, I danced with Nomar Garciaparra (another former Red Sox star). I love baseball. When Top Rank had a show at Yankee Stadium, I really wanted to fight on that show, but now I’m fighting at a beautiful ballpark. Boston has always had great fans and I think they will appreciate my style. I have friends driving up from New York City, and others are coming from Boston and even New Hampshire. I’m excited to display my skills there. Chuck (Shearns) is a great guy. He told me he always wanted to have a women’s fight on his (Polar Park) card and I’m honored to be fighting on this show.”

Shea has fought outdoors twice, in 2007 on a show held in the parking lot outside of the Eldorado Resort Casino in Reno (NV), in which the temperatures hit 114 to go along with the high altitude. The other time was in 2011, when she defeated Diana Ayala by way of a 10-round majority decision for the WBC Interim World Featherweight title, in Los Mochis, Mexico. She clearly remembers how bitter cold it was on that December night.

Based on her past experiences, Shea shouldn’t be concerned about fighting outdoors in Worcester during August, and she also has another reason to be on “Punch-Out at Polar Park II.”

“I’m excited to be fighting on the same show with Josniel (Castro),” Maureen explained. “We’ve been stablemates for a few years, and I’ve worked out with him a lot. I don’t need to fight. What more can I achieve? I’m doing this because I still can.”

The only returning “Punch-Out” fighter from last year’s pro card, dangerous prospect Josniel “TG” Castro (12-1, 8 KOs), will take on Jerry Bradford (9-2, 5 KOs) in an eight-round match for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) U.S. Junior Middleweight title. Castro vs. Bradford was elevated to the main when the original headliner, Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley vs. Anthony “Vicious” Vieira, was postponed until a later date.

Undefeated heavyweight Kevin “Big Gulp” Nagle (8-0, 7 KOs), a popular fighter from Scituate (MA), clashes with Mexican veteran Jose “Olympico” Humberto Corral (20-33, 12 KOs) in an eight-round match.

Four-time New England Golden Gloves Champion Keno Luna (2-0, 2 KOs), a promising junior middleweight prospect from Worcester, is back in action in a four-round fight versus Izaiah Vargas (1-10).

Card subject to change.
