Folk Festival radio show's eclectic mix is concentrated in folk and folk-based music but is not strictly limited to acoustic/folk sounds. It is a buffet for the ear, heart, and mind, with a selection of songs that inspires and entertains, from traditional, singer-songwriter, Celtic, folk-rock, country, and blues, to Americana and bluegrass, crossover styles, world music, novelty songs, and more. F
olk Festival on WDCB is for the astute listener and true music aficionado. The show often takes a light-hearted approach with whimsical themes, but is also a serious show that covers important topics--civil rights to labor rights, poverty and homelessness, more-- in songs that explore such issues and present insights and viewpoints. Special segments and historical information and trivia are also often included on the show. Outstanding studio guests are included frequently in live interview and performance spots, from Chicago-based artists to touring acts from all over the country and beyond. The show gives especially strong support to the Chicago music community with both studio spots and the weekly "Chicagoland Folk Calendar" feature begun in July 2007. Folk Festival is also an exciting virtual festival experience! There is a funnel cake booth, coffee (at the south gate), and seasonal specialties, as with the 'beer tent' that opens the Tuesday after Father's Day (I.D. required). The show's creative format offers a fresh, fun listening experience, and the live hosting affords a direct 'real time' presence and interaction with the listeners. Folk Festival occasionally transcends its virtual status with its popular station parties, live concerts, and other events. The host of Folk Festival is Chicagoland native Lilli Kuzma, who started at WDCB in April, 2001, as a rotating host for the Folk Festival show and back-up for the late George Brown, and as the sole weekly host since July, 2007. WDCB Public Radio is an award-winning, professionally managed, listener-supported independent public radio station licensed through the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, just west of Chicago. It was established in 1977.
