We have reached our final staff favorite! Huzzah! Yippee! Wahoo! If you’d like to see more art and writing, pick up one of our issues in Armstrong or scattered around campus! For this last staff favorite, our Art Director, Deanna, chose “The Little Things” by Chelsey Pauley.
🧦
Deanna says, “So tender and sweet and candid. The painterly quality and colors are amazing and enticing. I love the way this makes me feel nostalgic!”

Our Release Party may have passed, but the celebration of our Spring issue continues! This staff favorite was chosen by Lorna, a member of our editorial staff. Lorna chose “Worm Graffiti” by Anne Boyer and Lauren Lewis.
🪱
Lorna says, “I love how much of a story is packed into this photo and three-line poem. The poem builds this lovely world where worms intentionally make graffiti in their own language! How cool is that? I also adore the combination of Art and Letters together.”

💖
Chelsea says, “This is so my love in a dream sequence! This piece captures the feeling of the type of love that feels warm, fluffy, and connecting. I love the use of multimedia here as well :)”

Next up in our Staff Favorites series comes from our Co-Editor in Chief, Eleanor Prytherch. She adoringly hand-selected “washing off year old mudstains” by Lindsay Lehman.

Eleanor says, “is that a cowboy romance I’m sensing, a farmhand fling perhaps? I love the grit mixed tenderness conveyed in this piece. A love poem for those of us who like to get down in the dirt to look at bugs and think it would make an ideal date actually.”

Come read wonderful writing like this at our Spring Release Party on Friday! We’ll see you 7pm-9pm at the Ernst Nature Amphitheater 🌿

As we prepare for our Spring Release Party (this Friday 7pm-9pm at the Ernst Nature Amphitheater), here is our next staff favorite! This lovely art is chosen by Emma Estridge, a member of our editorial staff. Emma affectionately chose Fox Faces by Emily Bench.
🦊
Emma says, “I’m a little obsessed with this piece! It’s so chaotic and claustrophobic while still maintaining a really strong distinction between each of the foxes. There’s so many small details to find.”

Hurrah! Here is our next Staff Favorite chosen by the manager of this here Instagram account! The Social Media Manager, Ava Shaffer, chose “Etsy Organ” by Olive Abram to display in all its gory glory.
🫀
Ava says, “Oh this poem got me. Interesting line breaks, dry humor, strong voice- this is hitting all the right notes for me! It was fun to try to discern some meaning behind the organ metaphor here (being vulnerable? a breakup? living with your heart on your sleeve? guilt?). Whichever meaning (if there even isn’t one!) I love this poem for it’s oddness, humor, voice, and evocativeness.”

Our next staff favorite was chosen by Max Kaufman, a member of our editorial staff. He happily chose “The White Heron” by Vesper Krueger.
🦢
Max says, “What a delightful sculpture, so full of character! I love how uncompromising it is—in shape, color, and texture. This is a bird I’d like to meet one day. Let’s have a fish together?”

Behold our next staff favorite! This favorite comes from a member of our editorial staff, Lindsay Lehman. Lindsay so loving chose “awful wedding vows” by Olive Abram
💍
Lindsay says, “The idea and ex*****on behind this piece is just utter perfection and spoke to me in a way like nothing else has. Having so much to say, and so many expectations for the future, the feeling of this poem is immense. While they may be different, I see these as awfully moving wedding vows.”

Another staff favorite!! This one was picked by our writing director, Sophia Balsamo. They chose “No More Giggly No More Jiggly” by Madalyn Wardin.

Sophia says, “there's something so visceral and human about this poem, i think the intricacies of s*x and intimacy are conveyed with so much substance. at the same time, it manages a sense of self-love that doesn't feel put-upon or cliche but a necessity of losing connection and finding new meaning in absence. i'm particularly fond of “pour pungent whirl”-- its such a good image, so much breakfast food is liquids or batters so it threads easily into the poem's breakfast theme and yet it perfectly connects to messy, human eroticism that deserves poetic reverence.”

Another staff pick 🌙 This time from our Business Manager, Cosette. She picked “ode to my dad who’s 68 and giving me more time to miss him” by Jazlyn Simon.

Cosette says, “I think the author captures this specific relationship realistically and creatively. There’s an underlying sense of impending grief throughout this piece that really speaks to me, as it's stock full of keen, mundane observations that I envision the author tucking away for when the inevitable comes.”

Staff favorite incoming! Today we have editorial staff member Jonathan Fanshaw’s pick, “ Cyclops” by Kit Gladieux.

Jonathan says, “This is such a simple little story. It's not telling some grand tale or making an overarching metaphor, it's just a simple piece of a moment in time. And that makes it all the more compeling.”

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate from inks to you!! 🦃🍂 Continuing our staff favorites, check out a member of our editorial staff, Riley Courtney’s pick— “Remembrance of the Lake” by Jackie Michaud.

Riley says, “This poem holds a lot of very specific and tangible nostalgia. It's personal but in a way that lets it feel applicable to almost every life. It's a pretty depiction of death and a young girl's relationship with her mother that feels very visceral and beautiful. I love the word Vardamanian and the depiction of death. I also love fish imagery and metaphors.”

Time for the next staff favorite!! Co-Editor-in-Chief Eleanor Prytherch chose “Untitled 3” from “Rural Landscapes” by Maggie McLaughlin.

Eleanor says, “The muted, monochromatic colors of these pieces add such a film of nostalgia to this series, As a kid of the rural midwest, this series feels exactly like all the country drives of my childhood.”
