Dragon Cricket Podcast - A Park Cricket Odyssey Journey with the 'Dragons' Cricket Club in Melbourne's West as they attempt to recover the lost soul

03/10/2023

We're wishing Jack Cook all the best today, as he heads down under for a season at Barkly Street Uniting Cricket Club in Maribyrnong in Melbourne. The club was founded in 1925 and has senior teams in the Victoria Turf Cricket Association, as well as a growing junior section. Jack leaves on the back of another strong season for Kings Hill, having taken 34 league wickets at 14.9. We are sure he'll be a great asset to the club, both on and off the field.
Good luck, Cooky. We'll be following your progress over the winter and look forward to hearing about your time there. Safe journey.

Great cricket that… every element, just perfection.

Mitch Marsh denied his maiden double ton.

Frustrating scenes at Old Trafford. 😪

The rain has made sure that we won't get to see Mitchell Marsh scoring his maiden double century, followed by a 5W haul to seal the series 3-1.

Indeed, there are times when I think it could just as easily be called “Brexitball” because it seems to be based on a lot of bravado, an excess of wishful thinking, some rash decision-making and regular acts of national self-harm.

Usually a useful barometer in assessing the national self-confidence of its protagonists, in post-Brexit Britain, the need for Ashes victory is pronounced.

WENDELL HUSSEY | Cadet | CONTACT In some breaking news from the ‘home of cricket’ this morning, it can be confirmed that English fast bowler Stuart Broad is now the moral arbiter on what is and isn’t within the ‘spirit of cricket.’ The man known for being a cheat, and bragging about being ...

So I guess they didn’t feel like they won this one. Anyway, with the Aussies 2-0 up, England have them on the ropes. Baz ball lulling the Aussies into a false sense of security!

Baz isn't too chuffed about how the 2nd Test panned out... 👀

Fascinating quote from Shane Watson, current ACA President:
“That’s why things are starting to quicken up, and it’s moving towards a more world football model, where you play for your club, employed by your club, and you get released to play for your country. So much is required of an international cricketer travelling around, whereas as a T20 franchise cricketer, you can pick and choose your tournaments, have more downtime, not be at the beck and call of your country’s board.”
Is this the future of cricket we want to see?

Manoj Badale loves Test cricket, but he’s pragmatic: ‘Tests aren’t paying the bills’. Like many, he says a shake-up is looming.

Amazing finish, great to watch again. Love this American commentary trying to explain what is going on to a baseball audience. Great match.
