Proof we did more than just eat during our honeymoon🙃

📍 Castillo de Chapultepec
This beautiful 18th-century palace is located on top of Chapultepec Hill in Mexico City's Chapultepec park so bring comfortable shoes! The architecture and view alone makes this worth visiting, but be prepared to spend at least 1-1.5 hours exploring. Also the area is very congested so getting an Uber when leaving takes awhile (I suggest crossing the street to one of the hotels and calling from there).

Purchase tickets at door. No reservations required. Photos permitted without flash.

📍 Frida Kahlo Museum
Located in the Colonia del Carmen neighborhood of Coyoacán in Mexico City. Known as the Blue House, this is a historic house that is dedicated to Frida’s life and work. It’s crowded but worth going, and they also showcase some of her beautiful dresses too.

Reservations required/book in advance online. Photo permit can be purchased once there and is required for any photos inside ($3).

15/05/2023

Believe it or not, this is my first Mother’s Day dedication post on here & that’s because for the longest time, I refused to heal and I was extremely avoidant because of the pain I experienced growing up.

My mother and I didn’t have a strong bond, we fought a lot and never saw eye-to-eye. I felt betrayed by her when I was kicked out of the house at 18 by my father. I believed that she would never understand me because we argued so frequently. I thought I was just a failure to her because she would complain about how I was a “bad daughter” because I wasn’t living up to expectations. I was the black sheep, the first born on my mom’s sign so my relatives also put an extreme amount of pressure on me, and everything I did was scrutinized. So for decades, I was avoidant, I was numb to the pain, and I didn’t know how to act when my now mother-in-law was showing me affection.

In the last couple of years, I’ve been shown what a mother’s love is through other amazing women and ironically, that has in turn helped my relationship with my mother. But it takes two to make this work and I’m honestly surprised but in a good way that my mom has been making an effort by showing up to our workshop & coming by . She’s changing and so am I, and I’m hopeful now. It’s never too late to change the future of your relationships, and I know we hear it too often but our parents aren’t getting younger & you really don’t want to regret it when it’s too late✨

To all the beautiful mother figures, new moms, mom to be in my life — thank you so much for showing me a different side to motherhood, for helping me heal whether you realize it or not🙏🏼

What’s a small, everyday moment that brings you joy? 💫

For me — it’s making the bed, reading in the corner chair, making coffee, watching our cats live their best life, and cozying up on the couch at the end of the day. It’s the moments others may find mundane, the parts of the daily routine that we’ve done a million times before yet still find comfort in going through the motions over & over again. And while we may not be where we want to yet, we can at least be grateful for how far we have come from last year🙏🏼

A handful of reasons why I keep doing what I do & who I do it for💞

This is an appreciation post to the person reading this — thank you for showing up proudly every single day as yourself, for setting an example that you can be the best version of your current self while also still working on yourself, for being unapologetic but also holding yourself accountable, knowing that there’s always room to grow & improve, and that there’s things we have to unlearn as we heal too .. to the person who keeps pushing on even thru the storms & when the light may seem too far to reach, thank you for being here and for choosing you time and time again. You are inspiring so many in their own silent battles and I am just so proud of how far you’ve come👏🏼 Thank you for being uniquely you.

🏮Celebrating Lunar New Year as a married couple for the first time means we are now responsible for giving out red envelopes — also known as hong bao (Chinese) or li xi (Vietnamese) — to those who are younger than us.

Gifting a li xi means you are wishing good fortune to the receiver. It’s best to put crisp, new bills in even numbers in new, never-before-used red envelopes.

Hong bao’s are not just reserved for Lunar New Year though, as we also give them out during birthdays and weddings - especially at a Chinese Tea Ceremony🧧

Are you giving or receiving a li xi or hong bao this new year?

Sending love to anyone who needs a little extra love this weekend💞

This season isn’t the easy for some so I hope you spend this weekend taking care of you & prioritizing what you need. Set those boundaries! Never feel guilty for doing what’s best for your mental health, even if it means you excuse your from family events because let’s be real .. they can be triggering sometimes and who really enjoys being criticized at the dinner table? I’ve been criticized, had plenty of fights around this time with family, and honestly, I don’t feel the Christmas spirit half the time. So protect your peace however you can and spend it with people who truly love & see you (if you can)🙏🏼

Today is our Tea Ceremony, a Chinese tradition where we (the bride & groom) serve tea as a sign of respect & gratitude for the elders of our families, as they come to wish us well as we start this next chapter of our lives✨

This is our second & final wedding celebration, but is more meaningful than our first, as we are so honored to be able to continue this tradition (we had a beautiful micro wedding in Santa Barbara on August 30th with our closest friends - full recap is on my blog for anyone who missed it).

I can’t lie tho, there was a lot of stress and disagreements leading up to this (where we wanted to cancel twice), but now that the day is here, I am grateful & so happy we are doing this! Big thanks to our chosen family for all the support & encouragement these last two months 🙏🏼

Full recap of our Tea Ceremony will be on my blog soon - stay tuned!

Your imposter syndrome is lying to you again. You’ve been ready, you are capable, you can and you will, and a little fear is completely normal because it means that you actually are excited and care. You got this🫶🏼

❤️

10/11/2022

If you don’t believe in yourself, then who will? The worst thing that can happen when you bet on yourself is that you’ll learn & grow from whatever the outcome will be, regardless if it’s good or bad. Also, it’s OK to try something and find out it’s not for you. Quitting does not make you a failure & at least now you know what you don’t want to do.

I quit the corporate world in 2015 on a whim, after being depressed and burnt out. I worked since I was 16, and spent 12+ years in the 9-to-5 grind. I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do, no back up plan, no savings and barely enough to get by. I had started my blog, By Lisa Linh, the year before so I went all in while working a part-time waitressing job & taking up taking some freelancing opportunities for the just to pay the bills. Ironically I ended up working twice as hard than I did in corporate, and paydays went from every two weeks to NET30 & NET60☠️ When you work for yourself, you’re the CEO, accountant, project manager, photographer, videographer, PR, editor, etc. Thankfully, I have a great team handling half of this for me now, but those first 6 years were hard! I even tried going to nursing school & went to grad school briefly for psycho therapy, thinking I wanted a more stable job but it just isn’t for me in the end, and now I know.

The road to get here was rough, I wanted to give up plenty of times, lots of emotions & sleepless nights happened these last 8 years but I would do it all over again. You truly learn so much about yourself when you have no one to rely on, no one you can call on when you’re sick, and no one to help you financially. I’m grateful for this whole journey, for where I’ve been, where I’m at and where I’m going .. all of this is because I took a chance on me. Imagine what can happen if you took a chance on you too. You never lose when you bet on you✨

10/11/2022

Do you & do you well✨

It took me 18 years to finally stand up for myself, to have the confidence to walk into a room and not shrink myself, to speak up and speak loudly for what matters to me, to have the courage to leave relationships that weren’t meant for me and to walk away from anything that no longer aligns to me.

I was bullied from 3rd grade to 9th grade, and I held onto that pain for the longest time and projected in all my friendships and relationships. I let it all go 3 years ago thru therapy. I forgave myself for the people pleasing, for thinking I never deserved better, for allowing myself to play small, and for not knowing better at the time.

I started this healing journey a few years ago and it hasn’t been easy, regression occurs from time to time as you discover new triggers, but the work you put in has been so worthwhile.

You deserve to show up for yourself, as who you are in this world, without apologies and without living up to anyone’s expectations but your own — it will take a lot of work, it will hurt as you shed old layers, discover new ones, rediscover others but it is worth it. Keep going, you got this🙏🏼

10/11/2022

The younger version of you is already so proud of how far you’ve come🫶🏼✨

Believing in yourself when no one else does is hard, and when imposter syndrome creeps up, you’ll feel like you’re falling apart but that’s when you have to keep going. Remind yourself of how much you’ve already survived, how you already took that first step of your journey, and how you’re standing here today. It’s ok to go at a slower pace, it’s ok to take breaks and come back to it, it’s ok if your path doesn’t look like anyone else’s.

It took me 6 years to finish college because I worked full-time. It took me 8 years to hit 100K on here. It took me 12 years in corporate to realize what I want to do in life isn’t found there. It took 18 years to finally start my healing journey and at 34 years old, I can proudly say I am finally in love with who I am and who I’m becoming. Nothing about my path was linear or according to plan, well there wasn’t a real plan to begin with but some how I’m here.

So focus on what you think about yourself. Take care of your well-being so you can pour from a full cup. And know that this is your journey, and only yours, so don’t let comparison be the thief of your joy.

Our morning routine may not always look like this but there’s at least two guaranteed things Nala and I do everyday — and that’s eat breakfast + use the bathroom 😂

Nala just turned 1 this past week and as her birthday gift, we upgraded her bathroom to the 4, which is a self-cleaning litter box because honestly, who enjoys scooping? It’s much quieter than the previous model we had, with a sleeker design, and 20% more capacity. I also love how the Whiskers app notifies us of when to change the litter (and when I say us, I really mean because he does all the changing😅🫶🏼). While we love the look of the Litter Robot, we decided to hid it in this cabinet to give Nala some privacy (I gave her a curtain entry for even more privacy because she’s not trying to have anyone stare at her when she’s using the bathroom!)

Not going to lie, Nala’s bathroom refresh wasn’t cheap BUT it’s worth every penny for the peace of mind for us!
✔️ never scooping litter again
✔️ we can travel without worrying because the app monitors their usage too (and we can tell my sister when to change or refill the litter)
✔️ no odors whatsoever

Now, we just need to figure out what kind of job Nala can get since she a big girl now. Any ideas?🐱

17/10/2022

Some days are slow and calm, other days, you’re hitting the snooze button so often that you have to just jumpstart the day as soon as you’re up. Either way, let’s not forget to be grateful that we woke up to another day that wasn’t guaranteed🫶🏼 What type of morning was it for you today?

17/10/2022

Taking care of yourself also means taking care of your environment✨

Benefits of cleaning —
• reduces stress
• helps increase your productivity
• can improve your mood and make you feel accomplished
• a clean bedroom will help you get a good night’s sleep

Anyone else can’t focus unless their space is clean or is that just me? 😅

17/10/2022

You can plan and prepare all you want but the reality is that life never goes as planned, and if it really did, how much fun would you really have knowing how things would end? The joy is found in the journey, in the progress, in the unexpected moments and yeah, sometimes those curveballs suck and life can get hard but you’ve come out of those stronger each time. Your progress is proof that you can handle anything, even if you feel like you can’t. You’re stronger than you think and you’re inspiring those around you, who may be silently fighting their own battles too🫶🏼

Never once did I think I’d get kicked out at 18 (from a fight with my dad for coming home past my 8PM curfew), and have to grow up twice as fast, figuring out how to live on my own and put myself through school. It took me 6 years to finish college because I worked full-time and took up a second job halfway through, just to pay the bills. I didn’t get to join a sorority or any clubs on campus because I never had time, but I knew how to use Quickbooks by 21😂 I got my BA in American Studies, and haven’t used it at all. I worked in corporate for 12+ years, thinking I’d be a VP some where but then I burnt out, I hit rock bottom and went through depression and had suicidal idealizations before I even turned 28. I took a risk, quit my job on a whim, and went full-time into blogging in 2015/2016 (when it wasn’t believed to be a real thing). Life threw so many curveballs at me for the last 8 years but some how, I’m still here. Therapy helped a lot and gave me the strength to be more vulnerable. It’s not easy sharing parts of my life to complete strangers on the internet and we all know trolls are every where BUT knowing that my story can at least help ONE person out there, is what keeps me telling it. So to the person who feels like life is crumbling in on them and the pressure is too much handle, please know that you’re not alone. That it’s possible to get thru it. I promise you, it’s worth it if you keep going. One day at a time. You will get there❤️ I believe in you. I see you.
