It's time again for our monthly NC Planning & Land Use Committee meeting. On the agenda this month is a topic near and dear to my heart! SB9 is a state law I lobbied hard against last Summer because it allows random density in single family neighborhoods. This is "by right" development and there will be no public hearings and virtually no mechanism for fighting a bad project. We successfully fought bills like this for five years, but the bill prevailed in 2020, sadly. Don't even get me started on its companion, SB10, which is worse and also passed after a multi-year battle.
The City of LA is a little late to game since this bill became law on January 1st, but they recently rolled out their implementation guidelines. Come out on Tuesday and learn how this bill is going to impact our 90045 single family communities.
Also on the agenda is a coastal zone single family remodel. If you're a land use geek like me, you'll be interested in how our coastal zone neighbors in PDR face extra hurdles when remodeling. PLUC's chair is a PDR resident and knows these rules inside and out. It should be a lively conversation.
The meeting starts at 6:30 on Zoom. The agenda and zoom instructions can be found at https://ncwpdr.org/agendas/february-15-2022-planning-and-land-use-committee/.
Tomorrow night (Tuesday) is our monthly NC meeting. On the agenda - (1) facebook live vs. zoom for meetings; (2) allocating budget for neighborhood grants and projects; and (3) discussion about the Metro Purple Line. I wouldn't be surprised to see somebody pull item #8 off the consent calendar, either. Come out and be heard! PdR resident Lucy Han interviews Traci Park for L.A. City Council about our Councilman's surreptitious attempts to put homeless housing adjacent to Visitation Church and School. We would never even have known this was going on but for the dogged determination of Lucy and Debra Huston with public records requests. Thank you, ladies!! #living90045
