The Sports Book Awards is the major annual promotion for sports writing and publishing, the awards exist to highlight the most outstanding sports books of the previous calendar year, to showcase their merits and to enhance their reputation and profile.

“The Sports Book Awards are a great event in our sporting calendar. They show that the games we follow are not just about goals and runs and holes in one; they are about stories, history and personalities.”

In 2023 we introduced a new category, The Vikki Orvice Women’s Sports Writing Award, this year in association with DAZN.

Equality in sport is something we are deeply passionate about. So we wanted the award to be a platform for affirmative action that will encourage more women to look at sports writing as a vocation by shining a light on the rising female talent within sports writing.

We named it in honour of Vikki Orvice, a pioneering sports journalist who confronted male chauvinism in football and was a trailblazer in her field. She served as an inspiring voice in writing and we couldn’t be more honoured to award this prize in her memory.

With an incredible set of judges deciding this year’s winner, we spoke to Lisa O’Keefe, Secretary General of , on her role as a judge this year...

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rob Burrow, a sporting legend and inspiring MND campaigner.

Rob represented England and Great Britain internationally, winning eight Super League titles and two Challenge Cup trophies with Leeds during his career.

Burrow was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List 2021 and subsequently, a CBE in the New Year Honours List 2024, recognised for his dedication to raising awareness and funds for the MND community with the support of close friend and former Leeds team-mate Kevin Sinfield.

At our 2022 Sports Books Awards he was awarded Autobiography of the Year for his book, Too Many Reasons to Live, a remarkable, awe-inspiring memoir of boundless courage and infinite kindness.

He was a hero and an inspiration to all both on the pitch and off.

Our thoughts are with all his loved ones at this time.
