DAY 6 -INDIAN OCEAN CROSSING - REAL TIME UPDATE
We have reverted back to the initial crossing plan heading straight to Mauritius and are finally in the trade winds! Up until this point there’s been a lot of sail changes and frustration in the light winds so it’s a good feeling to finally have consistant wind! The winds will be slowly building over the next few days and then back off again. 2000nms to go! Safe passage for Nandji 2!! Lets go!! ⛵ #indianoceancrossing #sailingnandji

We have a big ocean in front of us that we plan to cross this year, with challenging patches of water. In preparation we need to ensure that our boat is solid and safe. In the latest episode we change our rigging from the old Dyform compact strand wire to Hamma Pro wire by @hamma_marine
Hamma Pro is lighter and stronger than Dyform and it also has less stretch, making it the number 1 compact strand wire on the market! Part 2 - Teak Deck Restoration
About that deck hey.... Yosh had rebunged all the screw holes and we are now in the boatyard, undercover working on the next step which is remove all the old caulking.
This was done in three parts:
1. We used a stanley knife to cut down each side of the seams and then used the reefing hook to scrape it out!
2. Some areas were too hard to get to so the dremmel was used for difficult spots.
3. Once all the caulking was removed there was still residual caulking left in the seams which then needed to be sanded out. This was made easier with the sanding tool! Every seam was sanded on both sides… and Walah! We have a caulk free deck. The hook and sander tool used were from @teakdeckingsystems thank goodness we had them!!! 🙈

What have we been up to lately??
The boat has become an absolute mess everyday for weeks as we bring her beautiful teak deck back to its former glory!

One thing that’s been on our mind ever since buying Nandji 2 is the condition of her hull.
When we bought her she HAD to leave the country ASAP so instead of taking the antifoal off back to Gelcoat to look for osmosis etc, we slapped antifoul on her and put her in the water.
We really have no idea about the state of the hull underneath the antifoul and its time to change that and see if there’s any hidden surprises!!
To speed up the process.. We found a company here in Thailand that do dustless yacht blasting and were gonna give it a go! Yacht Blast Phuket

The final refit is upon us as we get our "fix her upa" sailboat ready to cross the wild Indian Ocean. Our list of jobs started as the four big ones..
1. Replace all the standing rigging
2. Refurbish the leaky teaky deck
3. Seal and refurbish the capping rails
4. Re-antifoul for the cruising year ahead.
As expected.. The list is about to get bigger!
