Via News With Nicola: Jesus said to love your neighbor as yourself. That, in fact, is one of the greatest commandments — second only to loving with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and all your mind.
So how do you love your Black neighbor as yourself? And why do we need to ask the question? Journalist and author Chanté Griffin explains in an interview with Faithfully Magazine: https://faithfullymagazine.com/loving-your-black-neighbor-as-yourself-chante-griffin-book/.
Griffin, a journalist and natural hair advocate who writes about race, culture, and faith, also tells FM why her is different from the hundreds — if not thousands — of other antiracist books already published.
I’ve read "Loving Your Black Neighbor as Yourself" (get it here: https://amzn.to/4eD6vmM) and, personally, think Griffin does an excellent job of gently yet firmly unpacking the issues and inviting the reader to examine oneself in light of this great commandment.

In this episode of #NewsWithNicola, managing editor Nicola A. Menzie takes a look at the historical photo that inspired the movie #Emancipation and director Antoine Fuqua's focus on "sacred motivation." Will Smith’s character Peter was a real human being forced into slavery who endured abuse and extreme torture at the hands of his enslavers. And his story — what we know of it, anyway — is fascinating. And that’s partly because we only know about him because of his triumphant escape into the hands of the Union Army during the Civil War. Peter’s escape from bondage resulted in perhaps the most widely shared photo depicting the brutality of U.S. slavery. And you’ve probably seen his photo, but maybe never made the connection.
