We’re doing this on this morning. Come join us as we play his music from Big Black and Shellac, as well as cuts from the thousands of songs he recorded.

We would like to share an important message from Heather Whinna, Bob Weston and Todd Trainer with you:

Dear Friends, Fellow Music Fans, and Respected Venues,

Though we tragically lost Steve Albini on May 7, 2024, his indelible influence on music remains. Let's turn his birthday, July 22nd, into a worldwide celebration to honor his life and legacy.

The Plan:
On July 22nd, flood Instagram with stories and photos that capture the essence of Steve's impact. Share pictures of his albums that shaped you, concert memories, or even handwritten notes that resonated deeply. If you were lucky enough to meet him, let's see those photos!

The Important Part:
Tag your posts with . This will create a digital archive of our collective gratitude, ensuring Steve's influence remains vibrantly visible.

Spread the Word:
Invite everyone you know to participate. Share this message, or craft your own, to rally the music community. Let's make this a worldwide tribute!

Why It Matters:
Steve Albini dedicated his life to preserving music's raw integrity. His legacy continues inspiring artists and fans alike. This is our chance to demonstrate the immense impact of his life's work.

Let's Do This:
Make sure to mark July 22nd on your calendar! Unearth those cherished photographs and precious memories. Let's come together to honor Steve in the most fitting way possible.
…………

With immense gratitude,
Heather Whinna, Bob Weston & Todd Trainer

Hi. So we opened Life on Mars 9 months before the pandemic. We made it through that and as you may know, 100 other things to see our FIVE year anniversary on June 1st. That’s a big deal. We opened it to create a space for music, records, a sustainable menu, a place where people treat you with kindness and much more. We have achieved that I believe.

If you are in Seattle the coming weeks, I ask you stop by and make sure we have at least 5 more years. Any night. Just come in and enjoy. Oh and post! I’ll make sure to follow you if you do. I have a couple things Amy and I will be at that you might like as well.

Thursday May 30th: The Dr and the Dj…DJ. Join us from 6pm on as Amy and I play the records. It’s fun and kind of mayhem when the two of us are behind the decks. We are usually so busy laughing and talking we forget to put records on. Join us and say hi and support the bar and if you are going to PJ stop by on the way.

Sunday June 2nd. Drag Brunch. So for $20 a pop you get to hang at the bar, buy yourself some brunch and be entertained by drag queens. That seems awesome to me.

When I broadcast from home I get to see the family at a time that I didn’t for…most of our lives together.  I go in and wake up Henry and between the lamp I turn on, the blinds I raise, the song I sing and the dance I do…he is both awake and annoyed all at once.   I remembered that skill set from my Mom waking up and trying the same.   I had days and days of not getting up.  I refused to get up.  I could NOT. GET. UP.  Let me get this straight, you want me to get up and deal with a world my brain is telling me is dangerous, ugly and unforgiving?  I’m good.  These blankets are good.   Nothing can get me there.  Unless a plane crashes into the house.  SHUT UP BRAIN. My son always gets up BTW.

So I can imagine how hard it was for her to deal with something no one understood then.  How can he be sick when he’s not sick?  When you are sick, you are sick.  You appear sick.  You sneeze, you cough, you are sick.  Depression is like being sick but no one can see it, YOU can’t see it.  You just feel it.   You can’t even understand how to explain it.

If you make it out, you find the tools to understand that yes it is ugly out there and yes that plane could crash into your house but it is also beautiful and full of music and love and planes that don’t crash into your house nearly 100% of the time.

You are not alone
