The other day Finn mentioned what he remembers the most about our hunting and fishing trips.

It’s not what we saw, killed, or caught.

It’s the gas station pizza, drinks, and songs on the radio. The feeling of the season, and time spent with me. I broke down a bit hearing those words, out of my 10 year old. I’m cherishing these days, because we will never get enough of them.

Hunting a buck I call HP this season, with little time it is difficult. He is a solid 4 or 5 year old that has been a frequent flyer. Since he shed his velvet I have only got night time photos of him, but I know he is close. I scouted a little bit this morning in the rain and found a trashed tree/ bush that was up rooted from the ground. I’m assuming it’s him based off previous years intel, and force needed to do this sort of damage. I hung a camera on this travel corridor. I’m hoping it gives me another piece to the puzzle.

With only having mornings to hunt it’s going to be difficult, but I’m hoping to catch up with him very soon. I had a few encounters with him last year, and those dates are approaching fast!

I got out this morning for some bird hunting with this girl!!! Even though we didn’t find any birds she and I had a blast learning new territory.

The gun season in Pa has now closed and I’m super excited for our second bow season.

There is something special about being in the woods during this time. It’s remarkable to watch the wildlife prepare for the long harsh winter. Time in the stand is short, and the long mentally tough sits are no longer necessary . Find the food and you will find the deer! I don’t believe it’s ever that easy, but it also holds truth.

My standards definitely plummet as the season winds down “don’t shoot on the last day what you wouldn’t shoot on the first day” I call bu****it on that statement ;).

I don’t have as much time as I use to have, but grabbing the bow for an arrow or two gives me focus and keeps me dialed. As Finn would say “LETS GO!!”

Bowhunting with my son is such a blessing. I find myself caring less and less about the hunt and more about the adventure.

This platform was hung roughly 11 years ago. A younger version of myself with different aspirations. I’m much happier now and aging is a beautiful thing.

I was shocked the questions that Finn had about this simple piece of metal, the memories started to flow and our hunt became something totally unexpected.

It’s funny how time flys, this is Finn at 2 years old. Shooting his recurve in the house. Now he is 9 years old. I read a comment on a share of Finns deer. It read something like, it’s amazing the hard things kids can accomplish if given the opportunity!!! I couldn’t have said it better.

Finn found success again this morning. He made a perfect shot on this doe at 18 yards with his recurve, and I couldn’t be more proud of him. I know I’m going to get pounded with questions. So hopefully this answers most of them.
- 9 years old second deer with recurve
- 35 # 56”
- vap 800 v6
- 125 solid single bevel, 75 grain insert Snyder core system
- collar aluminum arrow cut 2”
-383 grains
- great northern quiver
- 18 yard shot
- tradvanes 3” 4 fletch
- Entry; didn’t contact bone, stuck in off shoulder
-recovery less than 20.

So pumped for my Ol’man we came up with a game plan and he executed it perfectly!!! Hot scrape at 7:15 this morning 7ft high…12 yard shot..out of the .5 with mini sticks… CONGRATULATIONS DAD!!!

Finn’s field points are disengaged, broadheads installed. This Snyder core system will be the ticket for Finn this fall.

I woke up much like every morning with whitetails dancing in my head. So, I rushed outside after the wife and kids headed down the driveway. I could still hear the stones hitting the fenders, when I grabbed a hold of the familiar block of G10. I didn’t waste anytime…

I continued through my shot process like it’s my job (which I do exceptionally well 😉), and the arrow looked like it was shot out of a unfamiliar bow. The stress and frustration began to sink in shot after shot.

My life is crazy busy every day of my life, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The stick and string brings me a sense of calmness in this crazy world we live. With that said, sometimes you will struggle with the things that bring you calmness, fading away like it was never there in the first place.

I always try to remember the reason why I shoot my bow, mine is pretty simple. Whatever brings you calmness, happiness, excitement, you will always have struggles. A great friend of mine taught me indirectly to laugh at little more…

Life is short friends. The only thing that I have found to live on forever is our purpose and memories. ✌🏻
