INTRODUCTION... This FB page is dedicated to all 'Classic Monsters' fans around the world... no commercial issue...
THIS IS A FAN PAGE FOR FANS !!! Throughout my whole life, I’ve kept myself fascinated with those classic horror monsters. From the early 1930’s up to the 1960’s, Universal Studios (USA) and Hammer Films (UK) produced some of the greatest monster legends of the big screen. I was a k
id and when Topps hit the market with their Funny ‘cartoon’ Monsters 'You’ll Die Laughing'
trading cards, I was hooked. Then by 1961, came Nu-Cards with their 'Horror Monsters' green border cards, followed by the second serie of cards with the orange border. These monster cards had quite an impact on me. They were right at
the center of my life. I can remember as if it was yesterday buying these
cards in the slot machine for just a nickel a shot. What a thrill I had
dscovering on the spot those strange creatures; the Alligator Man, the Amazing Colossal man, the Beast with a Million Eyes (Horror Monsters opening card no. 1), the Creature from the Back Lagoon, the Cyclops in Sinbad, Dracula,
The Fly, Frankenstein, the Headless Ghost, King Kong, the Mole People, the Mummy, the Phantom of the Opera, the Skeleton Man from the Crimson Ghost, the Time Machine monsters, the Werewolf of London, the Wolfman… and monsters from the atomic age or from outer-space. Of course, watch these movies! Every Monday night, my Mom would grant me watching the late
midnight monster movie. There I was all by my own in the dark of the
kitchen with my two eyes widely opened fixing that TV screen. One of those first featured movies was 'The Son of Frankenstein' with Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein Monster and Bela Lugosi as Igor. That movie was so intense. These black and white movies were incredible and amazingly frightening for a ten years old little boy. As a young teenager in those early sixties, I would run on a Saturday afternoon to my local theatre to watch the double horror movie feature in full Cinemascope
color. I would sit front row watching the battle of the century of 'King Kong Vs Godzilla', Sinbad fighting the gigantic cyclops to rescue his lovely princess in
'The 7th Voyage of Sinbad', or the latest sequel of 'The Evil of Frankenstein' with an amazing Peter Cushing as the Baron Victor Frankenstein. And for nothing in the world, I would had missed this coming new 3-D attraction to cinema. It was an experience of a lifetime watching 'The House of Wax' with the 3-D glasses and an astonishing performance by the great Vincent Price. And to keep a youngster updated on monster news, you couldn’t go by without reading the Warren-Ackerman publication of 'Famous Monsters of Filmland'. These guys were pioneer back in 1958 daring publishing a magazine entirely devoted to ghouls, monsters, vampires, werewolves and zombies. Kids loved it and what followed belongs to history. We can still feel its strength and inspiration among manies nowadays. And the good news, 'Famous Monsters of Filmland' rised once again from its grave in 2010…
