ONE-DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME ON FIRST AID

One-day training programme on First Aid was organized by the NSS Units, Health Care Committee, and Department of Physical Education Government Degree College for Women Pulwama, in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Pulwama on 24th October, 2024. The event aimed to educate college students on the importance of First Aid and equip them with the necessary skills to respond to medical emergencies.
The programme commenced with a Presidential Address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai, Principal of the College. In her address, Dr. Galzai emphasized the significance of First Aid knowledge in today’s world, particularly for young women, and appreciated the collaborative effort of the college and SDRF in organizing such an important event for the students.

The Welcome Address was given by Prof. Khalida Hassan, Head of the Department of Zoology and convenor Health Aid Committee. Prof. Khalida highlighted the crucial role that First Aid plays in saving lives and its relevance in both personal and professional settings.

A special lecture was delivered by Mr. Gulam Nabi, an instructor from the SDRF, Pulwama. Mr.GulamNabi’s lecture covered various aspects of First Aid, including how to manage common injuries, provide CPR, and handle critical situations before medical help arrives. His demonstration of practical First Aid techniques was well-received and greatly appreciated by the students and faculty alike. Live demonstration of combating with various emergency situations in case of fire, earthquake, or any other disaster was also displaced on the occasion.

The programme was moderated by Prof. Syed Kauser Andrabi, NSS Programme officer, who ensured the smooth flow of the event and engaged the participants in interactive discussions on First Aid practices.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks presented by Prof. Suraya Shafi, Head department of Commerce, expressing gratitude to the SDRF team, faculty members, and students for their active participation, and commended the efforts of the organizers for making the event a success. Dr. Fahim Ul Hassan (NSS P.O.), Mr. Zaffar Manzoor (Convener Sports) and Dr. Umer Jan Sofi (Health Care Committee) coordinated the entire program.

The programme was a valuable experience for the students, providing them with essential First Aid knowledge and skills that could help them act as first responders in case of emergencies.

Anti-Polythene Drive conducted by the GDC Pampore NSS Unit in connection with ‘My Town, My Pride’ under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav

In connection with ‘My Town, My Pride’ under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the college NSS Unit conducted an ‘Anti-Polythene Drive’ in the local market of Pampore on 12th of December, 2022. The Drive was conducted under the able patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai.

The drive commenced at 11:10 am from the college campus to the local market of Pampore and Tanchibagh. The college NSS volunteers and faculty members made the shopkeepers aware of the ill effects of using non-biodegradable and non-reusable polythene. The College Principal Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai talked to many pedestrians, and shoppers and dissuaded them from using polythene bags. Pedestrians using polythene bags were given recyclable bags and many polythene bags were seized in the said drive.

The rally passed through the markets of Namblabal and Kadlabal areas of Pampore raising awareness about the hazards of using polythene bags. It was emphasized that a shift in mindset is needed to adopt polythene-free life.

The objective of the drive was to impress upon the local populace of Pampore the growing menace of polythene. In this regard, GDC Pampore is already a polythene-free campus and endeavors are being made from time to time to make adjacent areas polythene free.

A total of 22 NSS Volunteers along with many faculty members participated in the said drive. The drive was coordinated by Prof. Alam Ara Shah, the NSS Programme Officer, and the whole team of NSS.

Friendly Badminton Match between Staff and Students organized by College Physical Education Department in collaboration with NSS Unit/ Debates and Seminar Committee under the banner of My Town/ College Pride

Pampore: Under the banner of My Town/College Pride, the college Physical Education Department in collaboration with NSS Unit/ Debates and Seminar Committee organized a ‘Friendly Badminton Match between Staff and Students on 10th of December, 2022. The match was conducted under the able patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai.

The match commenced at 11:30 am in College Multipurpose Hall and was inaugurated by worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai. In the match Team Yellow was represented by College Staff and Team Green was represented by College students. In singles, college faculty defeated students and in doubles, students played out the college staff.

The programme was coordinated by Mr. Zafar Manzoor, PTI; Prof. Alam Ara Shah, NSS Programme Officer; Prof. Aaliya Bashir and Prof. Ashiq Rashid Kuchay.

Awareness Program under My Town My pride 2.0 about 108 ambulance services at GDC Pampore

Pampore: Today on the 8th of December 2022 Under My Town My Pride 2.0 GDC Pampore organized an awareness program In collaboration with SDH Pampore to aware the students about the 108 Ambulance services. Almost 30 students of the college participated in the program along with some teachers. The officials from SDH Pampore informed the students that in case of any emergency dial 108 and share the location, and the ambulance will reach the spot within no time. They said this is a 24*7 service fully equipped with modern medical facilities to cater to any type of emergency. They also mentioned that it is free of cost but a fully supportive service.

DPS Srinagar students excel in local and national sporting events

Three students of DPS Srinagar have made the school proud by securing their place on the honours board in various sporting events.

Saira Zahoor has won the Gold Medal in the Senior Category in the J&K UT Level Thang Ta Championship 2022. The championship was held at Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar from the 28th to the 30th of October. Besides, she also won the Champion of Championships by defeating Arjumand Majeed from Khelo India Center Tral. The gold medallists from all 10 weight categories that constitute the Senior Category compete for the title. The performance earned her a spot at the Senior National Championship which is going to be held in Kanyakumari in February next year.

Similarly, Mysha Tariq of DPS Srinagar won the silver medal in the 30 KG sub-junior category at the Khelo India Wushu Women's league (North Zone) held at SKICC Srinagar. 700 participants from 8 States and UTs participated in the competition held from 4th to 7th November.

In another development, Azhad Arshad of DPS Srinagar has been selected to represent the UT for the Cooch Behar Trophy. The Cooch Behar Trophy, run by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, is India's national four-day cricket tournament for under-19 players. It has been held annually since the 1945–46 season. Arshad impressed the selectors with his stellar stroke play and silken batting in the trial matches held by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.

Commenting on the success of the students, Principal Shafaq Afshan said, ““Our students have established a proud legacy of excellence at diverse sports in the region, and representing it at national and international fora. Congratulations and best wishes for the future to the budding stars” Chairman Vijay Dhar said, “The region is a powerhouse of dynamic talent and the school has been envisioned as a cradle of this talent. We are delighted our efforts are paying off. Congratulations to the winners and the selectee.”

The Shah re khass traders appeal SSP traffic srinagar to deploy the traffic police cops to the main chowks of the Shah re khass as the diversions are not permanent solutions. We have already requested you several times but no body is listening. The school timing has been changed and the traffic mess seen in morning and evening. All the school busses, government employees, Srinagar Municipality vehicles and shopkeepers are moving from 9 am to 10 am. It is a need of an hour to deployed traffic police personals in morning and evening to control the traffic.if you have fallen shortage of staff in your department, it is better to recruite some locals youth on half salary than your traffic cops. There are many accidents took place due to these diversions and concertina wires. Please deploy some traffic police personals in peak hours to control traffic jams and maintain traffic lights at every chowk already installed, which can make people habitual to respect signals
