কিন্তু আমাদের হতাশ হইলে চলিবে না। অধ্যাপক সম্প্রদায় যদি নিজেদের কর্তব্য না করেন - তাঁহারা যদি নিজ নিজ জীবনের আদর্শ ও শিক্ষার প্রভাবে মানুষ সৃষ্টি করিতে অক্ষম হন তাহা হইলে ছাত্রদিগকে নিজ নিজ চেষ্টা ও সাধনার দ্বারা মানুষ হইয়তে হবে।"

১৯৩৯ সালের ২৯শে এপ্রিল, ভারতীয় জাতীয় কংগ্রেসের সভাপতি পদে ইস্তফা দিলেন সুভাষচন্দ্র বসু। এই মুহূর্তে তিনি হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন বাংলার প্রতীক। কবিগুরু রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর গান্ধীজিকে চিঠি লিখলেন “Some Rude Hands Have Hurt Bengal.”

তারপর কয়েক মাসও গেল না, কংগ্রেস থেকে কার্যত বহিষ্কৃত হলেন সুভাষ। তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ, দলের নিয়মশৃংখলা মানছেন না তিনি। আরও সিদ্ধান্ত হল, পরবর্তী তিন বছর তিনি কংগ্রেসের কোন নির্বাচিত পদে থাকতে পারবেন না। গান্ধীজি নিজের হাতে রচনা করলেন সেই প্রস্তাব। কংগ্রেসের ইতিহাসে আবার ঘটল নজিরবিহীন ঘটনা। কংগ্রেসের প্রাক্তন সভাপতিই হলেন কংগ্রেস থেকে বহিষ্কৃত।

খবরের কাগজে প্রকাশিত হল "Crown of Thorns For Sj. Subhas Bose"। এমন সময় কবিগুরু "দেশনায়ক"-এর পদে বরণ করলেন সুভাষচন্দ্র বসুকে।
