In the Cinefex Classic Collection for iPad, you will be able to access the entire history of modern visual effects any time, any where— every name searchable, every technique, tool, or experiment — made by the Academy Award Winning masters of the visual effects art — just a keyword search away. You can pour over every behind-the-scenes photos you can’t get anywhere else, from films like Empire Str
ikes Back, Aliens, and Blade Runner. Why A Digital Version?
• Ease of access - Cinefex was legendary for its denseness. As it was only published quarterly, a single issue could often exceed 150 pages. A full set of the print version of Cinefex weighs over 100 pounds. One article about an ambitious feature might be tens of thousands of words, with dozens of images; for example the Ghostbusters article alone in Issue 17 contains 25,881 words and 88 images (including the cover). Yet we’re aiming to make the digital edition so efficient that, if access to Cinefex was what you cared about most, you could carry the entire set on a single 1.4 pound iPad.
• Quality / Beauty - Even if you’ve read Cinefex for years, you’ve never seen it like this before. We have taken a lot of trouble to ensure that images are higher-than-Retina resolution, for zooming into the finest detail, optimally adjusted for sharpness and level balance, and more color accurate and more beautiful than ever before. This is, quite simply, the way Cinefex was always meant to be seen.
• Searchability - No more endless flipping through pages! We’ve indexed every issue and marked up every important term, allowing you to easily find the director, picture, artist or studio you’re looking for. Search on any word you like, and instantly see where it’s used. Locating relevant information across the entire Cinefex library has never been this easy.
• Completeness - In the early days, Cinefex was notorious for selling out. Popular issues (like the first 20, covering movies from Star Trek the Movie and Alien) sold out almost immediately, and has been unavailable as anything other than black and white photocopies ever since. The Digital Cinefex includes the entire print run of this indispensable resource.
• Durability - Written by professionals for professionals, Cinefex was an incredibly dense magazine, rich with details about how to achieve a given effect. (And full of humorous, cautionary tales of what mistakes to avoid making.) If you were lucky enough to own an original set, chances are those issues are falling apart. The restored, all-digital version of Cinefex will never age, no matter how many times you, your friends, colleagues or family read it.
