Iowa Republicans Want SNAP Recipients To Spend Their Own Money On Cheese & Bread

are once again hellbent on making life harder, this time by placing drastic limits on the foods Americans can purchase with their SNAP benefits.

Republican state legislators in Iowa have introduced a law to ban recipients from purchasing cheese slices, crumbled cheese, white grain bread, flour, white rice, canned fruits, canned soups, baked beans, pasta sauce, and several other common food items. Instead, SNAP recipients would only be able to purchase foods approved for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, which is much more restrictive.

Known as “House File 3,” this new proposal would provide $1 million for the state’s Double Up Food Bucks program, which matches SNAP EBT dollars and goes towards fruits and vegetables. However, the proposed legislation will significantly cut down on those who actually receive SNAP benefits. Additionally, those who receive Iowa’s Medicaid may be required to work at least 20 hours a week.

Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley, an outspoken co-sponsor on the bill, called food assistant initiatives “entitlement programs.”

“They’re the ones that are growing within the budget and are putting pressure on us being able to fund other priorities,” she stated to news outlet KCCI.

Iowa Hunger Coalition Executive Director Luke Elzinga slammed the bill, pointing out that such constraints would significantly affect people with restrictive diets.

Sadly, the bill is now moving forward, being reviewed by the state legislature’s Health and Human Services committee. No decisions have been announced.

We will not let mediocre white men erase us, our stories, our history and our achievements. This country is nothing without the sweat, blood and tears of our people. We will not allow you to continue to control what you teach our young people, especially Black children. You will not exclude them.

If you live in Florida, DeSantis needs to be held accountable. He needs to hear your voice and you better be prepared to vote this man out of the Governor’s office next time around and also make sure he understands he has NO chance of ever becoming President of the United States.

We will see to that.

Social media continues to fight for justice over the death of 13-year-old Sinzae Reed, who was allegedly shot and killed by Krieg A. Butler in Columbus, Ohio, back in October. As most will probably recall, Krieg was charged with murder, but on October 19, prosecutors filed to dismiss the case in Municipal Court, leaving his family in complete shock.

“It has been almost three months, and I haven’t spoken to anybody about this investigation,” Sinzae’s mother, Megan Reed, recently told The North Carolina Beat. “I haven’t even spoken to the detective. They are all on his side, Kreig is a white man, and the detective is a white man too.” At the time of Krieg’s arrest, Columbus police homicide detective Keith O’Connor asserted that the incident may have been self-defense, though there was no actual evidence backing up those claims.

Megan previously said she heard someone banging at her door on the night of Sinzae’s death, saying her son had been shot. When eyewitnesses described the suspect, it matched Krieg’s appearance — and though he’s alleged to have fled the scene, police later captured and arrested him. He spent a week behind bars before being released.

Donovan was unarmed and sleeping in his bed when Columbus Police officer Ricky Anderson barged in and murdered him immediately. Then after the murder, the police tried to justify it by saying that he had a v**e pen. WTF 😡 ⁠

And now Ricky Anderson is on paid vacation, while Donovan's family will never see him again.⁠

And this isn't the first time that Anderson has been in trouble. There have been 10 complaints filed against him since 2001, including for use of force. ⁠

After numerous calls for harsh punishments in recent days, the Iranian parliament on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly in favor of the death penalty for protesters.

Iran has been experiencing unprecedented levels of protests and civil unrest since the death of Mahsa Amini on September 16. The 22-year-old Kurdish woman was arrested by the country's "morality police" for supposedly wearing an "improper" form of hijab during a visit to Tehran and allegedly beaten severely while in custody.

Iranian lawmakers have, in recent days, called for strict punishments for the protesters who have been arrested. On Monday, CNN reported that a letter signed by 227 members of the Iranian parliament urged that the protesters be given harsh punishment that "would serve as a good lesson in the shortest possible time."

On Tuesday, parliament did just that, voting to impose the death penalty on all protesters in custody as a "hard lesson" for all rebels. The majority in favor of the penalty was considerable, 227 out of the 290 total members.

As we previously reported, singers Alicia Keys and Justin Bieber are said to be performing at the funeral service that will be held at Atlanta’s State Farm arena. Rev. Jesse Curney, III — a pastor from New Mercies Christian Church in Lilburn, Georgia — is set to officiate the service. While speaking with TMZ he said Takeoff had been “a faithful member” of the church since his youth. “He and his family were active and avid supporters of the church and the community as a whole,” Curney shared.

As WSBTV reports, fans who attend the service will not be allowed to take photos or videos. Officials are asking fans who did not secure tickets to not come downtown. In place of flowers and gifts, the family asks that donations should be made to The Rocket Foundation.

A 10-year-old black student was suspended from his Florida elementary school and may face a misdemeanor battery charge after he was accused of inappropriately touching the school counselor during a hug.

According to , the counselor said she “turned sideways to give a side hug" and the child put one arm around her shoulder and with the other hand “reached to grabbed her left breast."

The student’s teacher was in the room during the incident but did not witness the alleged inappropriate hug. Police was called as the counselor reportedly pressed charges against the fourth grader. The school gave the student a 10-day suspension.

The family believes racism was at play. The student’s father said the incident was reminiscent of Emmett Till.

The family demands the counselor should be fired, appeal the students suspension and request that no charges be filed.
