This is a small reminder for childhood trauma survivors to ask ourselves,
"how did we get here," when it comes to the family of origin abuse.

When we set boundaries, tell the truth, or go no-contact, there is typically a reaction from the family system that portrays the survivor as creating divisions and a mess.

"How could you say that about your mother!"

"That only happened once, and I can't believe you're doing this and not letting us see the kids!"

"You've always made everything about yourself, and what do I tell grandma now?!"

Their reactions accuse the survivor as the individual that broke hearts, not the nuclear family that engaged in decades of emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. And the arrogance they have to accuse the survivor about breaking someone’s heart.

To heal is to stop generational transmission, find ourselves and live a more honest life.

Abuse is about loyalty, control, and power.
