This picture was taken when I wasn’t “ready yet” but as candid pictures go, it proved to me that I stay ready. 🥰 My 7.3 day always serves as a reminder to always fix my crown 👑 & never forget who I am. Since day one, I’ve literally had to defy odds. My mother has had to defy odds. But to wear the crown, you must come to terms with the fact that it is heavy, and you must carry it with ease. Since the minute my head crowned from out my mother’s womb, I’ve been carrying mine. It holds so much weight but it’s mine to bear, wear and shine.🌟

I am a star completing an orbit. 💫 Tmrw on my official 7.4 day, I step into a new solar orbit that truly has me feeling so much like my father. The amount of trips I’ll make is even synonymous with some intangible connections I have with him. Some of the last conversations I’ve had with him have manifested into today’s reality. 🌌

Readiness is a mentality & my father was always talking about being ready for anything by keeping a positive mental attitude at all times. ☄️21 years have come & gone but I see him in me more than I ever have! Life is such a complex thing and a gift in itself. I’m blessed to be living it. ✨🙏🏽✨

Each and every year, July always pushes me to self-reflection. Not only is this the month I was born, but it’s also half-time, driving my mind-body-spirit into overdrive to achieve goals I set for myself. Doing this has lead me to experience so much in my lifetime; so many interesting chapters. 📖 Seven years ago this month, I was given my first controller as what we called a Perp-Appreciation present. 🎁 I reflected on the journey I’ve been on since then; ups and downs along the way, figuring out what kind of DJ I want to be, conjuring up and immediately discarding a ton of possible DJ names, but ultimately, it all brought me to who I am today.

I love being DJ Purple Lettuce. 💜🥬
She is the culmination of everything I have ever experienced in life, packaged in the same unique wrapping I’ve always had, with a more colorful bow. It’s fair to call her a “persona” considering I’m even talking about my DJ name in third person, but in all honesty, I am being more myself openly, than I ever have been. Becoming DJ Purple Lettuce has given me permission to do all the things I once thought I needed permission for— aside from actually needing to have gotten permission to add color to my hair as an adolescent. Choosing this path has been like a daily inner-healing for my child, teen & adult self simultaneously, and I’ve been able to incorporate many of my interests under one umbrella. Some of them I’m currently living and some are in the works, yet to be experienced but I’m ready for it.

I’m so thankful for how I started and who truly believed in me from day one, even when I couldn’t even wrap my head around the possibility of being where I am today. It was completely unfathomable! But now, today, I can’t even produce the smallest inkling of doubt that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be. 🙏🏽💫

I quite literally had the time of my life DJing a beautiful 25th Year Celebration Party in West Hollywood for an amazing crowd of people. It was an amazing way to spend my Sunday evening. I was so happy to play some of my favorite 70’s & 80’s Funk, Classic Rock, Disco & Motown songs. Anytime I get a chance to play in that field, I get really excited. I’m grateful to have been chosen for the opportunity. These are the Good Times!🕺🏻💃🏻🪩🎸🎉

My oldest brother was the HipHop Head in the house and tried to keep the music away from me, but one day I put my ear under his room door and all I could hear was this song. There was even a time when this instrumental was an ongoing soundtrack in my head to help me walk home from school or run the mile in gym class, before I could get my own Walkman. 🎧 • I had to pay tribute to @kendricklamar with the “Broccoli” snippet, considering this year’s rap beef was beyond exhilarating for me, since the last time I felt this crazy over when a song would drop was during Nas & Jay-Z’s beef.
