Aspiring authors! Praise God weâre in a New Year and guess whatâŚitâs time to write your book! đ Yes, itâs time for you to become a published author and itâs time for you to release it THIS YEAR! ⨠Why, because as you can tell between the end of last year and the start of this year, truth has been exposed and itâs time for you to tell your story and share your truth! Not just for âteaâ but because the Word describes how we overcome by the blood of the lamb and the Word of our testimony! (Rev. 12:11) đ And the best way to share your testimony is in written form to inspire others through your own book with your name on it! Your book is your legacy, and it is also a way to position yourself in the marketplace as a knowledgeable thought leader and expert in what you write about. As you share your wisdom and expertise gained over the years, becoming a published author adds to your credibility in your chosen field. Publishing a book is also a way for you to be blessed financially with an additional stream of income through many who will read and experience your book as they are blessed by it as well! Win win! đđž
You may know my testimony, how when God put in my heart the desire to write my first book years ago, I had no resources, no connections and no examples of successful authors that I knew at the time to guide me. I was just a girl from Detroit with a dream and a Word from the Lord. But guess what, little did I know at the time that that was all I needed. That plus the drive to get it done as I allowed God to order my steps, He opened doors and made a way for my first book to come out as I went. I initially self-published it after weighing the pros of cons of self-publishing vs going with a traditional NY publishing house. I stepped out on faith and released it and the results were amazing! I earned six figures in its first year and it went on to sell several thousand copies in its first two years and was on the bookshelves of Barnes & Nobles and then Borders nationwide which was, back then, unheard of for a self-published book! But God! It then became a National Bestseller through Black Expressions plus more Bestseller lists and being a published author opened many doors for me to speak locally and nationally as I was âflewed outâ by churches and non-profits having me as their guest keynote speaker for their conferences, womenâs groups and singles events with all expenses paid along with honorariums. And even today, my first book continues to bless the masses and since then I have authored six more books that have been both published through my self-publishing company and some have been picked up through traditional NY publishing houses as well such as Simon & Schuster and BET Books. To God be the Glory!đđž
With all this admittedly there were expensive mistakes made along the way, mainly because I didnât know what I was doing and was just going forth and learning as I went. I spent thousands investing in myself over the years and learning the publishing industry as much as possible so that I wouldnât be taken advantage of through lack of knowledge and so that no one could steer me in the wrong direction regarding book deals and offers. What I didnât realize at the time that God was then positioning me to eventually take my success and experience and what Iâve learned over the years to also protect and teach others, such as yourself, from making common mistakes made by most new authors as you set out on your publishing journey and getting it done right the first time and positioning it to become successful!
