Parshas Vayeira: Laughter of Redemption
Avraham and Sarah both laughed when G-d promised them a child. At one hundred and ninety years old, it felt impossible. But when the child was born, G-d Himself chose his name—Yitzchak, meaning “he will laugh.”
The Rebbe explains that this name isn’t about laughter from the past—it’s about laughter still to come. The laughter of redemption. The joy that will fill the world when truth is revealed, when every struggle finds its purpose, and every heart finds peace.
Before Yitzchak’s birth, holiness and the physical world were separate. His arrival bridged that gap, revealing that G-d’s light can dwell even in ordinary life.
Today, as antisemitism and confusion darken the world, we hold fast to that same truth. We are descendants of Avraham and Sarah—people who believe when others doubt, who build when others despair. The world may tremble, but faith endures.
For one day soon, the laughter of redemption will fill the earth. And it will echo forever.
