Last years was the first one outside the bay area and one of the best ones yet! This year we could not do an event as big with as many bands but I wanted to showcase some of the Filipino fronted/majority bands that have been playing lokally and representing and that is how we have continued with organizing a smaller version of AK fest. It’s been a couple weeks since Aklasan Fest SoCal 2023 and we are still feeling the afterglow ⚡️ Maraming salamat sa lahat sayo!! The community came out strong from all over California and across the country. The fest couldn’t happen without the bands, vendors, volunteers, and audiences! Over 200 people came to support the first Aklasan Fest in San Diego.

We’re getting ready for the big day! Bayanihan is a pillar of the Filipino spirit. The word represents our commitment to the collective, community cooperation, and mutual aid.

We’ve created a guide to support our bayanihan during the event with helpful information. We want to put people first so please connect with the event organizers and Che Café collective members if you need anything!

Mango (they/them) who is a q***r Kapampangan Pilipinx international multimedia transient artist, organizer, and farmer, is going through an incredibly challenging time as their mother is courageously fighting Stage 4 breast cancer and was laid off from her job - which means she has no stable income and secure insurance to continue her life affirming treatments.

We are initiating this GoFundMe campaign to rally support for Mango's Mom's cancer treatment and medicine, rent, and holistic wellness supplies, ensuring she receives the best care possible during this difficult journey as she secures a new job and restores her health. Additionally, Mango recently received news that they are at high risk for breast & ovarian cancer as well, and is currently undergoing medical tests to navigate the potentiality of this occurring. We are also fundraising for Mango’s preventative treatments and holistic wellness as they navigate this traumatic situation, including: copays for imaging and oncologist appointments, therapy, and the possibility of a mastectomy.

Our goal of $125,000 which will alleviate Mango of the financial burden and ensure their mom receives the necessary treatments, medications, and supportive care she needs during this challenging time.

We are inviting you to join the mutual aid efforts to support Mango and their mother as she continues to navigate treatments in the coming months without stable income.

Aklasan SoCal street team takes National City, one of San Diego County’s major Filipino communities. Stopping by local historic Filipino landmarks like Kimball Park, 8th Street, and Seafood City! For generations, SD has been home to a strong Filipino American community of labor organizers, youth activists, healthcare workers, and artists. To this day, our community is infiltrating our local Jollibee and conspiring against the Marcos regime hoping to uplift the movement here and overseas. The energy of San Diego makes it a great host of Aklasan Fest's first event in SoCal.
